The Learners tab of the Instructor Report provides detailed information for each student on the exam. Quickly assess how learners performed on the exam and understand if the exam achieved the intended goal.
Instructors can also access the Exam Report in one of the following ways:
- Click on the Exam name from My Reports.
- Click on the View Results action for an exam in My Reports.
- Click the Results button from the Course > Exams section for a completed exam.
- Click on the exam name from the Course > Results > Results section.
- Click on the Results action for an exam in Course > Results > Results section.
- Click on the exam status from the Course > Results > Scores section (in the column heading).
The Exam Report is defaulted to the Summary tab. Click the Learners tab to see detailed information for each learner in the exam. There are four sections in the Learners tab. Each one is covered in more detail below.
Course / Exam Information
The course name and instructor name(s) are displayed on the left side of this section.
To the right of this section, the learner count for the number of learners assigned to the exam and the Start Date / Time and End Date / Time of the exam are displayed. The time limit is displayed if the exam has an overall time limit. If the exam was not timed or was timed per question, a time limit is not shown.
Filters
By default, the Learner Report displays information for the top-ranked learner for the exam. If there are tied ranks, learners are displayed alphabetically by last name, first name as the secondary sorting. The instructor can view any learner assigned to the exam using the Learner dropdown.
If an instructor accesses the report by clicking on a learner’s name in the Exam Summary learner list or the Roster list, the selected learner is displayed instead of the number one ranked learner.
The Attempt filter allows instructors to view the details of any learner attempt. By default, the most recent or final grade attempt is displayed.
Click the Edit Score button to award bonus or penalty points affecting the overall exam or individual attempt scores.
Learner Performance
In Learner Performance, cards showing the learner's statistics are shown. You can download a PDF of the report from here.
Status
Status identifies whether the attempt Passed or Failed based on the instructor-set threshold. There are three possible statuses.
- Pass - The learner’s score was equal to or above the passing threshold set by the instructor.
- Failed - The learner’s score was below the passing threshold set by the instructor.
- Missed - The learner did not submit an attempt on the exam.
Rank
Rank shows the learner's rank out of all learners assigned to the exam. If two learners score the same on the exam (based on total points), they are given the same rank. Learners who did not submit an attempt are always ranked last, even if there were learners who submitted an attempt and received 0 points.
Percentile
Percentile shows the number of learners on the exam that the individual scored higher than. A learner in the 80th percentile scored higher than 80% of the learners assigned to the exam.
Attempt Details
In Attempt Details, cards for the learner's statistics are shown.
Points Score
Points score shows the points earned by the learner over the possible points for the exam.
Percentage Score
Percentage score displays the points scored converted to a percentage. It is rounded to the nearest tenth of a percent.
Time Spent
Time Spent displays the time the learner spent on the exam.
Roster Performance
In Roster Performance, cards for the exam's statistics are shown.
Average Score
Average Score shows the sum of all learner percentage scores divided by the total number of learners for the exam. Learners who were assigned to the exam but did not submit an attempt are included in this calculation with a score of 0%.
Median Score
The Median Score is the middle value of learner scores if all scores were arranged / ranked from lowest to highest. Learners who were assigned to the exam but did not submit an attempt are included in this calculation with a score of 0%.
Standard Deviation
Standard Deviation measures the spread of all exam scores. A low standard deviation indicates that most scores were clustered around the average score, while a high standard deviation indicates that the scores were spread more between the low and high score values.
Low Score
The Low Score is the lowest score on the exam. Learners who were assigned to the exam but did not submit an attempt are included in this calculation with a score of 0%.
High Score
The High Score is the highest score on the exam.
Average Time Spent
Average Time Spent shows the sum of all time learners spent on the exam divided by the total number of learners for the exam.
Performance by Metadata
Performance by Metadata shows the performance summary for all questions associated with the selected metadata. Performance details include individual learner performance, average roster performance, and total performance range across all learners on the exam. Based on instructor-configured thresholds, metadata tags are flagged as On Track, Review, or At Risk.
The Performance by Metadata card is empty by default. To add metadata performance, click Select Metadata.
- Search for metadata using the search bar.
- Sort metadata by Updated, Created, A to Z, and Z to A from the drop-down in the top right. The default is Updated.
- Use the checkboxes to select one or more metadata tags.
- Click Save.
Questions
Questions are listed in the order they appeared on the test from which the exam was published. Each card contains one question and its information. By default, each question card is collapsed.
The information displayed on the question card depends on whether the card is collapsed or expanded.
- Question Number
- Question Type and Preview
- Rationale (Expanded only)
- Metadata (Expanded only)
- Scoring - Type (Expanded only)
- Scoring - Possible Points (Expanded only)
- Edit Score (Expanded only)
- Correct
- Avg. Pts
- Skipped
- Avg. Time
- Time Limit (Expanded only)
Question Number
The question number corresponds to the order in which the questions were listed in the test the exam was published. It lists the original order of the questions, regardless of whether they were scrambled for students.
Question Type and Preview
The question type and a preview of the question stem are shown. The expanded question card displays the entire question, answer options, and the correct answer(s).
Rationale (Expanded only)
Rationale typically consists of an additional explanation for the correct answer to the question. Rationale will always be displayed in the instructor reports and can optionally be made available in the learner report for any exam.
Metadata (Expanded only)
The metadata displayed corresponds with what is chosen in Performance by Metadata. If nothing is selected, nothing is shown. Question metadata assists you in keeping track of learning standards, question difficulty, topics, and more to ensure that your tests meet curriculum, school district, state, and other requirements.
Scoring - Type (Expanded only)
There are four scoring types, depending on the type of question:
- All or Nothing (All / None) - Learners either get the question correct and receive all points or incorrect and no points. Questions with multiple parts must have all parts answered correctly. All or Nothing awards no partial points.
- 0 / 1 Partial - Learners will receive partial credit based on their response to the question. Items answered correctly will score points based on the instructor's points setting, and items answered incorrectly will score no points.
- + / - Partial - Learners will receive partial credit based on their response to the question. Items answered correctly will score points based on the instructor's points setting, and items answered incorrectly will lose points. Questions cannot score less than zero points.
- Rationale - The Rational scoring type applies to fill in the blank and drag and drop questions only when there is more than one blank for the learner to complete. If the learner answers the first blank incorrectly, they are not eligible to receive points for the question, regardless of how they answer any subsequent items. If the learner answers the first blank correctly, they will receive points for subsequent items answered correctly based on the instructor's points setting. Items answered incorrectly will score no points.
Refer to each of the different question types for more scoring information.
Scoring - Possible Points (Expanded only)
This is the number of points set by the instructor for the question.
Clicking / hovering the asterisk by the Points for a question shows a tooltip with the original score, bonus or penalty points added, the instructor’s note, and the user, date, and time the change was made.
Edit Score (Expanded only)
Click the Edit Score button to award bonus or penalty points affecting the overall exam or individual attempt scores. The question score is displayed with an asterisk on the report for the instructor (the learner does not see this).
Correct
Correct % identifies the number of learners who answered the question correctly divided by the total number of learners who submitted an attempt. If a learner received partial credit on a question, it is counted as correct. If a learner misses the exam (did not submit an attempt), they are not included in the calculation.
Avg. Pts
Avg. Points displays the sum of the points scored by each learner divided by the total number of learners who submitted an attempt. Learners who miss the exam (did not submit an attempt) are not included in the calculation.
Skipped
Skipped identifies the number of learners who did not submit an answer for the question, i.e., the question was unanswered when the attempt was submitted. If a learner misses the exam (did not submit an attempt), they are not included in the calculation.
Avg. Time
Avg. Time displays the sum of the time spent by each learner on the question divided by the number of learners. If a learner misses the exam (did not submit an attempt), they are not included in the calculation.
Time Limit (Expanded only)
A Time Limit will only appear if the question is timed.
