The Test Generator enables you to create customized tests based on your requirements. To meet your needs, you can generate tests using selected question banks, metadata filters, and preferred question types.
To enable the creation of a test from the Test Generator, you must have already created questions or imported question banks.
Create a Test With the Test Generator
- From a web browser, go to your region's login page:

Enter your email address and click Sign In.
If you are part of multiple institutions, from the dropdown, choose your institution and click Sign In.
- Enter your password and click Sign In.
- Click Create in the upper right of the header and select Test or click New Test from the Tests library.
- Give your test a unique name.
- Optionally, enable Bubble Sheet compatible.
- If enabled, choose the Bubble Sheet Style from the dropdown.
A preview of the chosen bubble sheet is displayed. The bubble sheet is the last page in the print preview.
- If enabled, choose the Bubble Sheet Style from the dropdown.
- Select Test Generator.
The Test Generator includes three steps to configure your test options:
The below sections will walk you through each step to create your test.
Choose Question Banks
When selecting question banks, the number of questions available based on your selection is displayed in the lower left.
- Select the Question banks or Uncategorized questions to pull from using the checkboxes on the left.
Once you select a question bank, it will appear on the right side.
- If you want to use your entire content library when generating the test, click Add All to quickly select all question banks and uncategorized questions.
You will only see an option for Uncategorized Questions if you have questions not part of a question bank.
- Optionally, use the search bar to search for a question bank by name.
Searching for a question bank filters available and selected banks based on the entered text.
- Optionally, you can remove banks one-by-one using the X icon or choose to Remove All.
- When at least one question bank is selected, click Next.
Filter Based on Metadata
When selecting metadata, you will see the number of questions available based on your criteria.
- Select a metadata category on the left or click Next in the lower right to proceed without filtering by metadata.
Categories display the number of available metadata tags for that category.
- Select one or multiple metadata tag(s) using the checkboxes in the table in the middle.

- Optionally, use the search bar to find a metadata tag by name.
- Optionally, you can remove metadata one-by-one using the X icon or choose to Remove All.
- When at least one metadata tag is selected, click Next.
Select Question Types
When selecting the number of questions for each type, you will see the total number of questions across all of the question types so you can easily see the number of questions in your test before you create it.
- In the box next to a question type, enter the number of questions to include on the test or choose Add All to add all questions to the test.
All question types are listed whether they have questions to include or not. There is no limit to the number of questions you can add to your test.
The number entered into the text box cannot exceed the available questions for any type.
- Optionally, you can remove all questions by clicking Remove All.
- Click Create to add selected questions to your test.
Questions of each type are selected randomly from the question bank and metadata tags.
Your test will be created by randomly selecting questions that meet your question bank, metadata, and question type selections, and the Test Editor will open. From here, you can configure additional question and test options.
