If the Mobi Pen is not writing when using the Mobi with WorkSpace, first make sure that the Mobi is connected to the Device Manager software. The Mobi Pen will not write when the Mobi is in offline mode.
If the Mobi is connecting to Device Manger properly, then follow the steps below to troubleshoot the Mobi Pen.
- Touch the Pen to the writing surface of the Mobi (the Touch Screen LCD on the Mobi View is not for writing). Note if the Pen indicator illuminates in the upper right of the Mobi LCD screen, near the Mobi battery indicator. If it does not appear, follow the steps below.
- If the Pen is new, remove the cover of the non-writing end of the pen, then remove the battery and reinsert it, making sure that there are no remnants of the battery protection tab inside the Pen.
- If the Pen has not been charged for at least 4 hours before use, or if there was part of the battery protection tab inside, please insert the Pen into the Pen holder on the Mobi until it clicks into place. Then connect the charger to the Mobi and supply power to the charger. The Mobi LCD will show that the battery is charging for approximately 15 minutes. Then the LCD will turn off, but the battery for the Pen and the internal Mobi battery will continue to charge.
- After charging, try the Pen again. If it is still not detected, it is possible that the Pen battery has failed and can no longer hold a charge. Options are listed below.
- If the model of the Pen is a Model RPN-1 or RPN-2 then the Pen will need to be replaced as the battery for that model of pen is no longer available. After receiving the new Pen, follow the directions to remove the battery protection tab and then charge the new Pen for at least 4 hours.
- If the Mobi Pen is an RPN-3 or RPN-5, a replacement AAA rechargeable battery can be purchased from our sales team. The new battery will need to be charged for 4 hours before use. Only use rechargeable Nickle Metal Hydride batteries in the Pen. Do not use non-rechargeable alkaline batteries, as this will damage the Pen and void the warranty.
- If the Pen is still not detected by the Mobi after replacing the battery, try removing the Pen tip and reinserting or replacing it with the spare tips that came with your Mobi. If you do not have replacement Pen tips, they can be purchased from sales. If this step does not work, the Pen will need to be replaced.
- If the replacement Pen is not detected by the Mobi, there is an internal defect in the Mobi and it will need to be replaced.
