The instructions on this page cover adding or uploading transcription files for media on the Media Details page. You can also upload a transcription file directly into the Transcript Editor. This process uploads the file to the media immediately and lets you edit it in the editor.
Some institutions may use manual transcription, while others may use automated transcription. Even if you are using the automated transcription service, you may have a process where you download the transcription file and hand it off for manual editing outside of EchoVideo. If the capture already has a transcription file, uploading a new file replaces the currently visible transcription with the new file's contents.
Admins can add new transcriptions or upload edited ones for all captures, and Instructors who are media owners can do the same. Co-instructors can also add or manage transcriptions for a capture if the co-instructor edits toggle is turned on for any section where the capture is published.
Non-Administrator Users (Instructors, Schedulers, etc.) who have been granted permission to order transcripts can send any video they own out for closed captioning.
Transcription files can only be in WebVTT format (*.vtt).
EchoVideo's transcription service is coded to the WebVTT specification as defined by the W3C: https://www.w3.org/TR/webvtt1/. As long as your VTT file meets the specifications, EchoVideo will accept it.

If a user edits the video, the transcription file may need to be re-created and re-uploaded for the edited video to be processed. If ASR is turned on and the edited file is published, the edited video will be re-sent for automated transcription. This means you may need to download the edited transcription, re-edit the updated version, and then upload the new file.
