When you build a project, Habitat sends the resulting Inkdoc to your EchoInk account and to the EchoInk accounts of everyone on the project team. The Inkdoc appears in your EchoInk library, which you can access through any EchoInk reading client—for example, on iPad, iPhone, Android, or the web.
This legacy functionality is enabled only for organizations that implemented Habitat prior to January 26, 2016. For more information, contact your Inkling representative.
In Export and Distribute > Export and Embed, Habitat provides two build types: Draft and Release.
Differences Between Draft and Release Builds
Draft builds are review-only builds, while release builds are candidates for publication. When you are ready to export and distribute your project, you create a release build. Habitat automatically notifies everyone on the project when a new draft or release build is available for download, and also anyone you add with Send builds to
someone outside the project.
The table below describes the differences between draft and release builds:
| Feature | Draft | Release |
|---|---|---|
| Encryption | No | Yes |
| Search is enabled | No | Yes |
| Sandbox chapters are included | Yes | No |
| Suitable for export and distribution | No | Yes |
Prerequisites
Before you build:
- The project that you want to build must be error-free. In Habitat, click Review Errors in the top bar to review reports.
- To view the resulting Inkdoc in Inkling for Web and Mobile, you must use a supported browser or an Inkling mobile app for your iOS or Android device.
Understand the Build Page
This section describes the interface and behavior of the Export and Distribute > Export and Embed page.
Page Behavior
During the build process:
- The square project cover image in the top bar changes to a circle, indicating the build progress.
- Build status icons display in the Latest Builds and Export sections, along with a message on if the build completed successfully, with warnings, or with errors.
- Messages appear on the right indicating the build process status.
The images below show most of this behavior.
