EchoVideo allows schools, universities, and training organizations to customize the platform to their specific teaching and learning objectives. At the heart of that flexibility are Institution-level features—a collection of settings that let administrators decide which tools, integrations, and workflows are available across the entire campus.
What are Institution-Level Features?
Institution-level features are global settings in EchoVideo that administrators can turn on or off for all users within the institution. They govern capabilities such as content creation, accessibility, public sharing, notifications, and player behavior. By setting these options at the top level, you establish the default experience for all organizations, departments, and sections, while still allowing local overrides where appropriate.
Administrators can find these controls in Institution Settings (via the gear icon in the top-right corner of the EchoVideo page). The settings are organized into four tabs:
Features – Core options that affect content creation, management, accessibility tools, notifications, capture tools, and player preferences.
Section Features – Options that control how tools like downloads, Q&A, and other interactive features behave at the institution, course, and section level, with optional instructor-level overrides.
Feature Spotlight – Opt-in features that introduce major workflow or integration changes and are made available for early use before becoming generally available.
Beta Features – Preview features that allow you to test upcoming functionality before the public release.
Why They Matter
Consistency and Quality
By setting defaults for features such as captions, browser capture, or public links, administrators ensure that every class or department starts from the same baseline. That makes the viewing and learning experience predictable and professional for students.
Accessibility and Compliance
Features such as automatic captions, transcription language settings, and player controls can be switched on across the institution. This helps meet legal requirements (e.g., ADA) and institutional commitments to equitable access.
Security and Privacy
Toggles for public links, downloads, and email notifications help control how content is shared and who can see it—critical for protecting student information and sensitive recordings.
Administrative Efficiency
Centralized switches mean IT or learning-tech teams don’t have to configure the same option repeatedly across courses or departments. One change applies across the board, saving time and reducing errors.
