EchoVideo: Enable or Disable Universal Capture Features

Universal Capture features can be turned on or off at the Institution level. When disabled, the features that users would normally see and which are described in the Online Help, are not available.

To enable/disable Universal Capture features

  1. Log into EchoVideo as an administrator.
  2. Click the Settings icon in the upper-right corner of the screen.
  3. From the Settings menu, select Institution Settings.

    General settings appears and Basic Info is selected by default.

  4. Select Features.
  5. Scroll down to the Universal Capture section of the page. There are three main toggles, as described below.

  6. Enable or disable each toggle as needed.
  7. Click Confirm on the confirmation message that appears.

Universal Capture Toggles

Administrators can also enable or disable downloads of Universal Capture: Personal for Students. This option resides in the Institution Settings > Roles and Permissions > Student toggle list, as a sub-toggle to the Student library option. Because Students uploading UC: Personal captures to EchoVideo requires them to have access to their Library/Content Home, the ability for students to download the installers also requires the Student Library option to be turned on. Toggle Description
Simplified Sign In Enables users to log in to Universal Capture within the desktop application itself (rather than an external browser) to simplify the login process.
OFF by default

Simplified Sign In is not the recommended setting (especially if using SSO), it merely provides a simpler login workflow for users.
Internet Engineering Task Force's (IETF) recommended practice is to use an external browser so the application code is not exposed to the user’s credentials. Using the default browser-based workflow also allows for the use of password managers and may not require users to log in at all if they are already authenticated against an SSO within the browser.
Universal Capture: Online

Enables access to the Online interface, allowing for remote monitoring and control of managed UC devices from the room card for administrators and, if provided by an admin, from a URL for instructors.

If the Ad Hoc Capture Button for Instructors is also enabled, the confirmation message when generating an ad hoc capture will also include a Check Capture button that will launch the UC: Online UI.
ON by default
Instructor Cancel Button Provides a Cancel button, allowing the instructor to cancel a scheduled capture, but ONLY if they are the identified instructor for the capture schedule.
