The library's primary purpose is to provide users with a centralized repository for media that can be shared with other users, put into collections, or published in classes. However, some institutions want to disable the Library for students to keep them from sharing copyrighted or other content that should not be shared with other users.
If the Student library is enabled, administrators can allow or prohibit students from downloading and using Universal Capture: Personal. Enable the Student Software Downloads so students can navigate to the Downloads tab and access the Universal Capture installers. This is disabled by default. The Student Login for Universal Capture: Classroom toggle will allow or prohibit students from logging into existing Universal Capture: Classroom installations to create recordings.
The Student Library is disabled by default. It must be enabled for students to embed media into an LMS / VLE content window, add media to a Collection, or submit EchoVideo media for an assignment.
To enable the Library for students
- Log into EchoVideo as an administrator.
- Click the Settings icon in the upper-right corner of the screen.
- From the Settings menu, select Institution Settings.
General settings appears and Basic Info is selected by default.
- Click Roles & Permissions, then select Students.
- Enable the Student library toggle switch (it is off by default).
- Click Confirm on the confirmation message that appears.
- Optionally, under Student library, enable the Student Software Downloads toggle switch (it is disabled by default).
- Click Confirm on the confirmation message that appears.
- Optionally, under Student library, enable the Student Login for Universal Capture: Classroom toggle switch (it is disabled by default).
- Click Confirm on the confirmation message that appears.
Students will now see a LIBRARY tab at the top of their EchoVideo window. Furthermore, they can upload and share content with other users and collections for which they have Add / Upload permissions. They will also be able to embed media for student assignments and make copies of media where the option is made available to them (from shared media or a class list).
Toggling this switch shows or hides the library page from student access. If the toggle is turned off after being on, the media that may have resided in the student's library is still there and will appear if the toggle is enabled again.
