Questions and answer choices can be locked into place to provide instructors greater control over test design. Locking questions focuses on specific content, as certain questions may rely on information from previous ones. Locking answer choices ensures that key answers or distractors remain in predictable locations while still allowing for randomization where necessary.
Lock Questions Into Place
Instructors can lock a single question or multiple questions in a fixed position on a test. Locked questions are indicated by a lock icon in the question panel, and the option in the question's vertical action menu changes to Unlock.
When questions are randomized for a printed test or exam, locked questions stay in their designated positions. For example, if question three in the test editor is locked, as shown in the figure below, that will be question three for all printed versions of the test and all learner exam attempts with this test.
- Open the test's Test Editor.
- Click the vertical action dots of the question you want to lock into place.
- Choose Lock.
The question is now locked into position, as shown in the figure above.
Lock Answer Options Into Place
Instructors can lock a single or multiple answer choice in a fixed position on the test. A lock icon in the answer panel indicates locked answer choices.
When answer choices are randomized for a printed test or exam, locked answers remain in their assigned positions. For example, if answer choices are locked in the second and third positions, as shown in the figure below, they will always appear there, while only unlocked choices will be randomized.
- Open the test's Test Editor.
- Select the question whose answer choices you want to lock into place.
- Click the lock next to an answer choice.
- Click Save.
The answer choice is now locked into position, as shown in the figure above.
