Within EchoExam, from the Manage Account page, you can control the following:
- User Info
- Preferences
To change these settings, you must be logged into your EchoExam account and have navigated to Manage Account, as shown in the figure below.
User Info
- Click Change Password, as shown in the figure below.
- Enter your Old Password.
- Enter the same password into New Password and Confirm Password.
- Passwords must contain:
- Upper and lowercase letters
- 1 or more numbers
- At least 8 characters
- Passwords must match
- Passwords must contain:
- Click Save.
Your password is updated.
Subscriptions
If you have received a subscription from a publisher, you will redeem it here. Enter the subscription code from your publisher to redeem your EchoExam license and click Add.
Preferences
Click Preferences, as shown in the figure below, to configure your EchoExam settings.
General Settings
Test / Exam Instructions
Add optional exam instructions for assigned learners. These instructions will be pre-filled when printing a test and creating an exam.
Answer Option Labels
This indicates how multiple choice, multiple select, and true / false (including modified true / false) answer options are labeled. You can choose from capital letters, lowercase letters, or numbers. Capital letters are the default.
Instructor Report Settings
These default preferences apply to all exam reports that you view. You can change these settings while viewing individual reports.
Question Report Display Options
- Show Question Content - When turned on, shows the question text on the Questions tab of the Instructor Report.
- Show Correct Answers - When turned on, shows the correct answer to the question on the Questions tab of the Instructor Report.
- Show Rationale - When turned on, shows the rationale on the Questions tab of the Instructor Report.
- Show Instructor Annotations - When turned on, the Questions tab of the Instructor Report shows the instructor's annotations.
- Show Performance Metrics - When turned on, the performance metrics show on the Questions tab of the Instructor Report.
Exam Settings
These default preferences apply to all new exams that you create. You can change the settings for individual exams.
Exam Settings
- Allow backwards navigation - Turned on by default unless changed in the instructor preferences or unless the exam has timed questions (this setting is automatically turned off when individual questions are timed). When turned off, learners cannot return to previous questions, must complete all questions in order, and will not have access to the question navigation panel.
- First answer only - Turned off by default unless changed in the instructor preferences. When turned on, learners cannot change their answers to a question once saved. Learners are prompted when saving so they know that the response cannot be changed.
- Show feedback - When turned on, learners will see a feedback button to click to view feedback for their entered response.
- Enable Password - When turned on, add a password to ensure learners cannot begin the exam until you provide it. Your exam password must be 4-20 alphanumeric characters, without special characters.
Integrity Settings
- Randomize questions - The questions are displayed randomly each time a learner takes the exam.
- Randomize answers - The answer options are displayed randomly each time a learner takes the exam.
- Block cut / copy / paste - This prevents learners from using cut, copy, and paste functions during an exam. Learners will not be able to paste text from another source into their exam answers, and they will not be able to copy questions or other exam text out to another location.
- Browser lock - This feature prevents learners from viewing additional tabs or using other applications on their devices while taking the exam.
Learner Report Settings
- Allow report download - When turned on, the learner can download a PDF of the report using the download button.
- Show final score - When turned on, the learner sees the final points or percentage score when submitting their attempt and the final points, percentage, and pass / fail status after the exam is complete.
- Show question content - When turned on, the question, answer choices, and learner responses are displayed.
- Show question results - When turned on, the learner will see which questions they answered correctly and incorrectly when submitting their attempt, along with the correct answers, after the exam is complete.
- Show rationale - When turned on, the learner report will show an explanation for the correct answer to the question.
Threshold
Set the basis for threshold calculations.
- Points - All thresholds are based on points out of the total points in the exam.
- Percentage - All thresholds are based on percentage score.
Number of Attempts
Set from 1 to 10 or Unlimited. This defines the number of times each learner can submit the exam during the scheduled time.
Submitted Score
Set the score option to be officially recorded.
- Highest Score - Takes the highest score attempt that the learner submitted.
- Average Score - Takes the average score from all attempts that the learner submitted.
- Last Attempt - Takes the score from the most recent attempt that the learner submitted.
At Risk Threshold
Set the points or percentage at which a learner's academic performance indicates they do not grasp the tested content. The At Risk Threshold cannot be higher than the Review Threshold.
Review Threshold
Set the points or percentage at which a learner's academic performance indicates they will benefit from a review of the tested content. The Review Threshold cannot be higher than the Passing Threshold.
Passing Threshold
Set the points or percentage at which a student's academic performance indicates they understand the tested content. A Passing Threshold may be set without setting a Review and At Risk Threshold.
Participation Settings
Designate who is allowed to access the exam.
- Course roster - Only those learners in the assigned course roster can access the exam.
- Entire organization - Every individual added to the organization can access the exam.
Print Settings
These default preferences apply to new printed tests. You can still change settings for individual printed tests. Your account or organization must have test printing enabled in EchoExam. Contact your Account or Customer Success Representative to turn on printing tests.
Versions
- Number of Versions - Choose the number of Versions to print from 1 to 26.
- Randomize Answers - The order of the answer options is scrambled. The answer options in each version will be in a different, random order.
- Randomize Questions - This scrambles the order of the questions. The questions in each version will be in a different, random order.
Display Settings
- Show question instructions - This turns on preset instructions based on the question type.
- Show question points - This displays the points in parenthesis after the question number but before the question instructions.

Include space for answers - This creates space for learners to indicate their answer selection.
- Displays a blank line before the question if the learner must respond with a selection from a list of options.
- Displays space below the question if the learner must respond with a number, word(s), or sentence(s).
- Scale images to page width - Images will scale to the width of the page. When turned off, images are displayed as configured in the question.
- Include alt text as a caption - Any alt text for an image is displayed under the image.
Answer Key

Print answer key - This prints a copy of the instructor's answer key for each test version.
- Include Points - This includes the points value for the question with the answer key entry. If Print answer key(s) is off, this option is turned off.
- Include rationale - This includes the rationale for each question with the answer key (if one has been added for the question). If Print answer key(s) is off, this option is turned off.
- Include instructor annotations - Instructor Annotations will be included in the answer key (if one has been added for the question). If Print answer key(s) is off, this option is turned off.
- Include metadata - This includes the metadata values for each question with the answer key entry. If Print answer key(s) is off, this option is turned off.
- Include distractor options - Displays all answer choices on the answer key. When unchecked, only the correct answer option is displayed.
Layout
- Paper Size - Choose from US Letter or A4.
- Optimize for double-sided printing - Inserts a blank page when necessary to ensure that test versions and answer keys are printed as individual documents during double-sided printing.
Print Styles

Padding - Sets the spacing between questions and answer choices. There are three options.
- Narrow
- Normal
- Wide

Font Size Scale - Adjusts the font size to be larger or smaller than the default. All fonts will preserve the relative sizing as configured in the question. There are three options:
- Smaller
- Normal
- Larger

Line Spacing - Adjusts the vertical space between individual lines of text within a paragraph or text block. There are four options:
- 1
- 1.2
- 1.5

Font Style - Sets the default of all printed tests to use one of the following fonts:
- Arial
- Georgia
- Open Sans
- Times New Roman
- Verdana
- Override question font - Updates all question and narrative font to use the selected style. When unchecked, the selected font style will apply to the header, instructions, and page count for the test.
Page Numbers

Include page numbers - Page numbers print at the bottom of the page.
- Include total page count - The current page out of total pages is displayed. If Include page numbers is off, this option is turned off.
- Placement - You can print the page numbers in the Center, Left, or Right of the page. Center is selected by default.
