When you click a Course tile from the Courses page, you end up on the Class List. Or you may have a link from your LMS course into Echo that puts you on the Echo360 class list for the course.
The Class List is, as its name would imply, is the list of classes in a course section. Typically they have a name and a date. The classes are usually listed in chronological order, though an instructor or teaching assistant may change the order if they want.
If media is published to a class, the class has an Icon for the type of media it is: video/audio, presentation, or interactive media. The above figure has different classes containing all three types of media.
Clicking ON a class in the list opens the classroom so you can view the media.
A Green dot to the left of the class Name, shown for the LIVE Ad Hoc Capture class in the above figure, and indicated for the non-live class in the figure below, means that the class is happening now (the current date/time is the same as the scheduled class' date/time). If your instructor grades on online Attendance in classes, click on the class row to enter the classroom during class time.
For currently-happening classes that are not being live-streamed, there may be a presentation to follow along with, or there may be active Q&A discussion happening. You can use the Notes panel to take notes on the class as needed, which will show up in your Study Guide for later reference. The recording of the lecture may appear in the class later after it is finished recording and is published.
Interpreting the Media Icons for Classes
If there is NO icon shown for the class, there is no media available for students to view in the classroom. Why might this be?
- The class capture has not happened yet, or the video is not done processing.
- Availability of the video may be delayed until it has closed captions.
- The video is set to only be available for a certain date range.
- The instructor has made it unavailable for students for some reason.
Check with your instructor if you think a class' media should be viewable but is not.
The Media icons you may see are described in the following table.
Icon | What it is/indicates |
|
Green Icons indicate you have not yet entered this class or viewed this media. The left "Play button" icons is for video/audio media. The right "Presentation screen" icon on the right is for presentations/slides. |
|
Gray icons indicate you have entered this class to view the media. |
![]() ![]() |
The box with the checkmark indicates interactive media. This is video media that has polling questions embedded into it. These questions will appear during viewing and require you to respond in order to continue viewing the video. As with the other media icons, green indicates you have not entered this class to view the media; gray indicates you have entered the class. |
|
If you see a class with one green and one gray icon, that indicates that you entered the class when one of the two items was available to view, but the other media was added later. This is common if you enter a class during class time to view a presentation, but the video of the class isn't posted until later. |
![]() ![]() |
The LIVE badge indicates that this class is or will be streamed lived for viewing in real-time. If the badge is green, that means the class is happening right now, and if you enter the classroom, you will be able to view the live stream. This is shown for the Ad Hoc Capture class in the figure at the top of this page. If the badge is gray, this indicates a future class that is scheduled to be streamed live. If you enter the class during class time, you will be able to see the live stream. |
![]() |
To the right of the class date (if it has one) and the class media icon, there is a "discussion" bubble and a number. This indicates how many discussion or Q&A posts have been entered into the Discussions panel for this class. Clicking this icon opens the Q&A tab for the course, with the posts for this class showing. |
Indicators for color blind or low-sighted users
If you cannot see or discern the media icon color, don't worry!
Click ON the media icon to open a menu for that media. The FIRST thing noted below the media thumbnail and name is "Viewed" or "Not viewed". Use this indicator (via sight or screen reader) if you are not sure if you have entered this class. The media icon menu is shown below, in the figure in the Media Icon Menu section.
For LIVE badged classes, those occurring right now are also accompanied by a dot to the left of the class. If the class has both a LIVE badge and a dot, that class is currently happening, and the live stream can be viewed right now in the classroom.
Media Icon Menu
As stated earlier on this page, clicking ON a class row opens the classroom and lets you view the media there.
From the class list, however, you can click ON a media icon to open a popup menu for it, as shown in the below figure.
Use the media icon menu to access certain commands for the media. These options can vary, depending on what has been enabled for students. You may be able to download the media file to your local computer, or create your own copy of the media. Media copies you make appear in your Library. You may have the option to edit the transcript for the media, if this is turned on for students in this course.
Searching and Sorting the Class List
At the top of the class list are the Search box and Sort drop-down list.
Enter text into the Search box to find classes with matching criteria. The Class list search will attempt to match Date, Class Name, or Class Description (if there is one) to the entered text.
Use the Sort by drop-down list to re-sort the class list by Date, in either ascending (oldest first) or descending (newest first) order. Note that classes without a time/date will be listed at the top or bottom of these sorts depending on which you selected. Understand that your sorting selection is temporary. The Class List returns to its original order (as set by the instructor) on refresh.
