EchoVideo Universal Capture (UC) is a cross-platform, simple capture interface accessible across hardware and software. It creates a consistent user experience across all capture mediums and allows you to create recordings to supplement your in-class materials.
Our goal is to keep the interface simple and clean. Creating recordings is as simple as selecting the inputs, clicking Record, and publishing the recording to your library or a class.
Once published to a class, the recording is available to students, or you can configure availability on a schedule if you prefer.
If you access EchoVideo through a learning management system (LMS) such as Canvas, Blackboard, or Moodle, you must directly log in to EchoVideo to publish Universal Capture recordings. See Creating or Changing Your EchoVideo Password.
If your institution uses single sign-on authentication and you log into an institution portal to access EchoVideo, Universal Capture will walk you through the login process via your default browser and request your institution login credentials.
Additional information for Admins can be found in the Universal Capture Administration section.

Universal Capture: Classroom
Universal Capture: Classroom is a managed version of the UC desktop application for Mac and Windows intended for use in a classroom setting. This means that the UC: Classroom device must be assigned to a room associated with an Institution. Recordings can be scheduled, and the device can be configured. If access to UC: Online has been enabled, the device can also be controlled and monitored remotely.
An important thing to note if your classroom computer is being used to record scheduled lectures is that the computer must be turned on to record correctly. Furthermore, if the computer is a Mac, the instructor must log into the computer so that Universal Capture Classroom can obtain the permissions needed to access the computer's camera, microphone, and screen for recording.
Network considerations
An internet connection is necessary to log in, live stream, and upload recordings. For more information surrounding network requirements for live captures, see Live Streaming with Universal Capture.
An internet connection is not necessary (if already logged in) to create ad hoc captures.
Universal Capture: Personal
Universal Capture: Personal is a stand-alone version of the UC desktop application for Mac and Windows intended for use on a personal computer. As UC: Personal is not a managed device, it will never allow for remote control or monitoring of the application via UC: Online or UC: Device. Recordings are created ad hoc and can be published to whichever Institution the user is logged into.
Network considerations
An internet connection is necessary to log in, live stream, and upload recordings. For more information surrounding network requirements for live captures, see Live Streaming with Universal Capture.
An internet connection IS NOT necessary to use UC: Personal to create ad hoc captures. See Working Offline for UC: Personal for details.
Universal Capture: Online
The Universal Capture: Online interface allows you to remotely access and control managed capture devices using an internet connection by establishing a direct web socket connection to the UC device.
Administrators can access the UC: Online interface from the Rooms tab. For any managed capture device (does not apply to legacy SHCDs), click View Room on the desired Room Card.
Instructors can launch the UC: Online interface from the confirmation message when starting a new device ad hoc capture if it is enabled or if they have bookmarked or been given a URL from their administrator.
Network considerations
An internet connection IS necessary to access the Universal Capture: Online interface to create and upload a recording.
Universal Capture: Device
The Universal Capture: Device interface is only accessible if your institution has enabled single sign-on (SSO) for devices and configured it on the device. Contact Echo360 support for more information on Device SSO.
The Universal Capture: Device interface replaces the instructor view of the legacy device Web UI and allows you to remotely access and control managed capture devices using a LAN (local area network) connection.
Administrators can access the UC: Device interface from the Rooms tab. For any managed capture device (does not apply to legacy SHCDs), click Log In on the desired Room Card and remove the /advanced
portion of the URL. If /advanced
is left in place, the legacy device Web UI will be shown instead.
Instructors can navigate to the device's IP address or domain name in a web browser.
Network considerations
A local area network or internet connection is necessary to launch and use the Device interface to create and upload a recording.
