Universal Capture (UC) is a cross-platform, simple capture interface that is accessible across both hardware and software, creating a consistent user experience across all capture mediums. Because it has a consistent interface, you can easily access UC, log in, and use it to create or control captures as needed on any device.
Universal Capture Software
There are two different types of Universal Capture (UC) software, both of which are available for Macs and Windows PCs:
Universal Capture: Personal is software that is only accessible through the installed desktop application.
Universal Capture: Classroom is still software that is installed on your computer, but the installation is considered a managed capture device because it must be assigned to a Room and be in contact with the EchoVideo server. This allows for remote monitoring of the computer, remote control of recordings and, if enabled, allows UC to be accessed from anywhere using the Online and Device interfaces discussed in the sections below.
To launch the local installation of either UC: Personal or UC: Classroom, use one of the following methods:
- From the New Capture or New Software Capture option from the Create button menu.
You will then be prompted to either install UC or launch it locally on your computer.
- From a desktop shortcut (either created manually or through the installation process).
- From the Applications menu on a Mac.
- From the Start menu on a Windows PC.
Universal Capture Online
The Universal Capture: Online interface is available for the Pro, Pod, and UC: Classroom installations. It can be remotely accessed over the internet from anywhere by:
- Navigating to a URL provided by your Administrator in your web browser for a specific device.
- Clicking the Check Capture button at the end of the New Device Ad Hoc Capture workflow (if enabled).
If access to the Online interface is enabled, you can launch UC: Online at any time, even if a recording is ongoing.
Universal Capture Device
The Universal Capture: Device interface is available for the Pro, Pod, or a UC: Classroom installation and can be accessed remotely over a local (LAN) or internet connection by navigating to the IP address or domain name for the device in your web browser.
NOTE that the UC: Device interface is only accessible if single sign-on (SSO) for devices has been enabled for your Institution and is configured on the device. Contact Echo360 support for more information on Device SSO.
