The look and feel of the Player is changing in December with the Q4 release. Upcoming changes are identified in this article by providing screenshots labeled "Old UI" and "New UI".
Hi there! Welcome to the EchoVideo Online Help!
This article is designed to point you in the right direction for getting around in our interface. All of the links here are set to open in a new tab so that you can easily return here to get more information if you need it.
First, let us figure out how YOU get into EchoVideo.
Accessing Courses / Classes
If you come in through an LMS / VLE such as Blackboard, Canvas, or Moodle, you might end up on the Class List for your course / section. It looks like this:
From here you can click on a class to enter the classroom. The Class List is also sometimes referred to as the section or course home page.
And there is more to courses than just classes, including a Q&A or discussions feature, the ability to take notes and review your study guide, and search across the section for something specific.
If the link to Echo from the LMS / VLE goes directly into a Class (also called a Classroom), it might look something like below. This is also what you see if you click on one of the classes in the class list shown above:

The Classroom has all kinds of things in it beyond the media published there. If all you want to do is view the video and presentation, that is fine too. But take a look at Using Classroom Tools for a description of all those icons and what they do. Or just click on them; you will not break anything.
If you log directly into EchoVideo, you probably land on the EchoVideo Library page. This is your media library and shows all of the content you have access to.
Click on Courses from the top menu to view the courses you are enrolled in (with the most recent term's courses shown first). Click on one of the Course tiles to open the Class List. Then look at the earlier part of this article to see about the Class List.
Your Media Library
If you are or plan to use your EchoVideo library to hold media, you will want to become familiar with the Library page in EchoVideo. The media here can be shared with other users including your instructors, put into Collections, or submitted for homework assignments.
The Library also provides quick access to some of your Collections, if you are a member in any EchoVideo collections.
If you do not have the Library option, as shown below, your Administrator has the Student Library turned off and you can skip this section.
From anywhere in EchoVideo, click Library from the top menu bar.
This is where ALL the media you have access to OUTSIDE of a course / classroom lives. This includes any media you upload to the system and / or any media you make copies of from within EchoVideo. It also includes any collection media you have access to. If you are new to EchoVideo, it will probably be empty.
If you have media, click ON any media tile to open the media details page, and view the media from there.
It is where you can upload files to share. It is where you can go to edit these files in EchoVideo. It is where any copies you make of Class media show up. It is where you can view media that other users have shared with you. Any media in any Collection you are a member of also appears in your Library. It is where any captures you might create using Universal Capture: Personal will appear once they have been uploaded.
All media management can be done on the Library page of EchoVideo.
Accessing EchoVideo Collections
The Collections page is where you can access any Collections you may be a member of. As noted above, some of these are also shown on your Library page. But ALL of your collections are on the Collections page.
From wherever you are (the Class List, for example), click Collections from the top menu. This opens the Collections page, which shows all the collections you are a member of. Again, if you are new to EchoVideo, this page is likely to be empty at first.
Just like courses or media, click on the tile to enter the collection. From there you can view the media posted in it, or if you have collection media rights, add media or remove media. If you are a collection manager, you may also be able to add / remove / change the rights of members of collection members.
Using the Mobile App
Finally, as a Student, you have access to the EchoVideo Mobile App that you can use to view your class media, ask questions, and take notes on the go. While using the App is fairly straightforward, there are a few things you need to know about using it, especially if you access EchoVideo through an LMS / VLE.
You may need to create an EchoVideo password: Students who enter through a link in their LMS / VLE are simply passed into EchoVideo. We have your email address but you do not have a password. The Mobile App requires you to log in, and that means having an EchoVideo password. It can be the same as or different than your LMS / VLE password, as long as it meets the complexity requirements.
While in EchoVideo, click the Settings icon and select Account Settings. There you should find a great big CREATE button. Use this to create your password.
LMS / VLE Students may not be able to use the Mobile App exclusively: While the EchoVideo mobile app is convenient, you do need to access EchoVideo through the links in the LMS / VLE at least once if your instructor exports grades from EchoVideo to the LMS Gradebook. This simple one-time pass-through establishes your presence in that LMS / VLE course and allows us to know that your user should receive gradebook data for each link.
If your instructor configures a single link to the main course class list, you can pass through that link once and use the EchoVideo mobile app after that. If your instructor configures multiple links into separate classrooms, you will need to enter those classes through each of those LMS / VLE links at least one time to be sure you get gradebook data exported from EchoVideo for your class participation.
