Accessibility Improvements
We are committed to making EchoVideo accessible for everyone. To support our latest VPAT (Voluntary Product Accessibility Template) update with Level Access, we are rolling out a hotfix release focused on key accessibility improvements. This update addresses several issues identified in recent audits and will help ensure a better experience for users with visual, cognitive, and motor disabilities. Please see below for a list of the improvements we are making:
Improved Responsive Layouts & Text Resizing
We have made significant updates to ensure EchoVideo works better at high zoom levels and on small screens, so content is never cut off or lost:
- Ensured pages and controls reflow properly at 200% zoom and at 320px viewport width, so users with low vision can access all content without horizontal scrolling or missing controls.
- Fixed issues where buttons, labels, and navigation elements disappeared or overlapped at small screen sizes.
- Example fixes:
- Slide Deck, Interactive Media, Collections, and Transcript Editor now maintain full functionality and visibility at all zoom levels and screen sizes.
Better Labels, Instructions, and Input Purpose
We have improved how EchoVideo communicates the purpose of fields and controls, both visually and programmatically:
- Added persistent visual labels and instructions for all form fields, including dynamic updates for controls like change layout.
- Required fields are now clearly marked with an asterisk (*) and programmatically indicated for screen readers.
- Common input fields (like First Name and Last Name) now use standard autocomplete attributes, improving autofill and assistive tech.
Enhanced Screen Reader and Keyboard Support
We have made it easier for users relying on assistive technology to navigate and interact with EchoVideo:
- Ensured hidden buttons and controls are not accessible to screen readers or keyboard users unless intended.
- All custom controls (like toggle switches) now have proper accessible names, roles, and states, so screen readers announce them correctly.
- Error messages and required field instructions are now accessible to screen readers.
- Example fixes:
- Hidden play / pause buttons in the transcript editor are no longer exposed to assistive tech.
- Toggle switches for permissions and copyright now have meaningful labels and roles.
