EchoInk User Administrators control which areas of the platform a specific user can access and administer.
When a user administrator logs into Habitat, the dashboard displays a People link in the top navigation bar. Links to other areas of platform administration may appear depending on the permissions assigned to the specific administrator.
Understand Platform Permissions
Before setting platform permissions, note the following:
- Ensure that your organization has at least one active EchoInk User Administrator account with all permissions enabled. If you remove all user administrators from your EchoInk organization, you must contact support@echo360.com to restore them.
- Disabling your own Habitat access or user management permissions cannot be undone. Another EchoInk User Administrator must reactivate your account and restore the necessary permissions.
- Disabling a user’s access to Habitat also disables many other permissions. Disabling a user’s Habitat access also disables the user’s module management, user management, Habitat project access, and Insights permissions.
- Disabling a user’s access to Habitat does not deactivate the user’s EchoInk account. For example, if you disable Habitat access for a user, the user could still use the EchoInk app. See Deactivate users.
- Grant Insights permissions only to users authorized to manage sensitive data. Insights administrators will have access to your users’ personal data, such as name, email, and geographic location.
Set Platform Permissions
- On the dashboard, click People > Users.
- Search for a user by first name, last name, username, or email address.
- EchoInk returns the first 20 results that match the entered criteria. Refine your search criteria if the results do not contain the specific user.
- Users with Habitat access have a check mark in the Habitat User column. Users without a check mark have read-only access to publications distributed to the EchoInk library.

Click a user’s name to access the user’s account information, which includes the User Permissions area. The Manage user permissions slideshow below shows this area on the user’s account window. You can enable or disable these options:
Permissions Description Dashboard Link Habitat Access Controls whether a user can access Habitat and Habitat projects, and create new projects. Also contains the Manage Project Access link so you can manage the user’s permissions on individual Habitat projects. See Manage Habitat project access.
If you disable a user’s Habitat access by setting the toggle to Off, Habitat keeps the user’s history with a project: the user’s revision and comment history and team membership status. However, the user won’t be able access the project, even with a direct link. Disabling Habitat access also removes the user from your organization’s Habitat license account.
Projects Module Management Controls whether a user can add and deploy EchoInk modules using the Module Management Interface. See EchoInk Module Guide. Modules User Management Controls whether the user can create new and administer existing Habitat user accounts. See Add users with the interface.
