Branching workflows exist within forms. Inkform Workflows allows routing of the form itself for approvals, action items, and other follow-ups. Adding elements, conditions, and triggers allows the approval process to be visualized.
Create a Workflow
After you have created the form, go to the Settings tab in the Form Builder, click on Approval Flows in the menu on the left, and click the Create an approval flow button. This will redirect you to the approval flow builder.
Add and Connect Elements
The following options will allow you to add and connect elements:
- Drag and drop a new element between existing elements.
- Draw a link to create a placeholder, then drag and drop the element there.
- Drag and drop an element outside the connected elements, then manually connect it.
Set Up an Approval Element
The approval element is the main component of the whole approval flow. This is where the outcomes are defined in the workflow. The default options are Approve and Deny. You can add additional options and set up multistep and parallel approvals.
Create Multistep Approvals
The multistep approval allows multiple people to approve / deny a request. This is an example of how to create a flow for a multistep approval:
Say the HR department reviews the request first. If they approve the request, it is sent to the supervisor for the final approval. When the supervisor makes their decision, the approval flow ends. Conversely, if the department denies the request, the approval flow will end without being sent to the supervisor. Here is an example of how to create a flow for a multistep approval:
Errors and Warnings
If required items are not configured for an element, a red circle with an exclamation mark will appear near the top-left side of the element.
For Advanced Configuration, additional details / instructions can be found here.
