You can create and respond to comments about your Inkdoc, and see how your content will appear when published using the Preview functionality.
Understand Comments
The initial view of a Habitat comment provides summary information:
- Name of the person who created the comment
- Number of replies to and actions on the original comment
- Comment text
- Comment status
- Assignee
The images below show the initial collapsed view and the expanded view. The expanded view includes additional detail and functionality, as described in the sections below.
| Collapsed View | Expanded View |
|---|---|
You can perform a variety of actions on a comment:
- Create the comment.
- Delete an unsaved comment.
- Modify comment content and details.
- Set a status.
- Set an assignee.
- Reply to another team member’s comment.
Change messages appear similar to comments, but they are read-only, show limited information, and are generated by Habitat.

Use the Comments Sidebar and Filter
Select Show Comment to display the Comments sidebar. Highlights and a comment
indicator line appear on the page to show the specific location of the comment in the sidebar.
The comments summary view shows the comment status and text.
Filter by Status and Assignee
Use the status and assignee dropdown menus under FILTERS to determine which comments appear. Select or clear checkboxes to set the filters.
You can search for an assignee by entering the first letter of their first name. For example, enter V to find an assignee named Vanessa.
Work With Unattached Comments
An UNATTACHED COMMENTS section displays when the page includes comments that are not attached to any text. This generally happens when one of the following occurs:
- A user deletes the text to which a comment was attached.
- A comment was created without being attached to text using the legacy commenting functionality in Proof mode.
Expand the comment and click the View last version where attached link. The interface switches to a previous version of Inkdoc, showing the location of the unattached comment.
