Use Search to find a word or phrase in the project. For example, you can view all H2 headings in your title to ensure they are formatted consistently and follow the same editorial conventions.
To search for instances of words or phrases that appear in the text:
- Click Search at the bottom of the Table of Contents sidebar.
- Select Text Search (default) from the drop-down menu.
- Enter the search term in the search box. Enter a single word or a phrase. Do not wrap phrases in quotation marks, and do not use terms such as
and,&, or apipe (|). - Optionally, filter search results by choosing from the In drop-down menu.
-
Click Go.
Search results are displayed in the center of the screen.
-
Click the blue link above each search result to open the page on which the result appears.
Pages open in a new tab of your browser, so it’s easy to go back and forth between your search results and individual pages.
Filter Your Search Results
You can filter the search results by limiting it to an individual chapter, a file type, or both. If your project contains many files, filtering your search results reduces the time it takes to run the search.
There are two options in the drop-down In menu:
- Chapters: Choose All Chapters (default) or one of the chapters in your project.
- Files: Choose All Files (default), HTML, or S9ML (legacy projects only).
Be sure you see all of the search results. Click Load More if it appears at the bottom of the search results.
Advanced Search Options
You can access two advanced search options from the drop-down menu at the top of the Search sidebar:
-
CSS Selector: Searches the title using CSS selector syntax (including CSS classes). Use the format
.class-name; note the period at the start of the class name. Search for headers and other elements by their tag. For example:h2. - RegEx (regular expression): Searches the title using regular expression syntax. Search within tags is currently not supported.
Search and Replace Text
The Search function does not have a Replace function. This means you must manually replace each word or phrase with the new word or phrase on each applicable page. If you need to replace a large amount of content across many files, contact your EchoInk representative or email support@echo360.com for help.
