Use a table pattern to format your tabular content.
Understand Tables in Habitat
Responsive width: Habitat uses scrollable tables to ensure the table displays correctly on any device. End users of Inkling or other digital readers will see a scroll bar at the bottom of the table, which they can use to navigate the data.
Word wrap: Habitat controls the width of content within table cells to ensure that the entire table displays well on any device, without very short or very long columns. This means that if you enter content that contains many words, like a long link or URL, Habitat will wrap the
content to fit the table cell’s dimensions.
Add a Table to a Page
- Drag a table pattern from the right-side Add Pattern sidebar to the page.
- The Set Initial Table Dimensions window displays, as shown in the image below.
- Either drag your cursor to select the required dimensions, or enter the number of rows and columns.
- Click Add.
The table is displayed in the editing pane.
You can use the Tab key to navigate cells in a table. If you press Tab in the rightmost cell of the bottom row, you will add a new row to the table.

A blue box appears around the table.
- Move your cursor to a table cell in the row or column you want to modify.

Habitat deletes content in the adjacent cell and keeps the content of the active cell that contains your cursor.
You can only merge two adjacent cells at a time. You cannot merge some or all cells in a row or column in one step.
Style Tables
You can choose from several table styles depending on your template. Either hover your cursor over a table or drag the table to the page to view the table’s style.
You can also use the breadcrumb bar to change the style of a table you have already added to the page.
