This article describes how to create a new Inking project, or Inkdoc. It also provides important information on Inkdoc templates, which form the basis of your Inkdoc.
Be sure you understand which options you need to configure to achieve the required final publication. Certain Inkdoc settings are relatively easy to change, while other changes may require help from Inking Support.
Contact your Inkling representative with any questions on Inkdoc configuration before you add significant amounts of content.
Understand Inkdoc Templates
A template is a complete, ready-made design for your document. When you create a new Inkdoc, select the template that most closely matches the look you want for your content. After you create a new Inkdoc, you can revise its structure and CSS.
Your organization works with your Inkling representative to create custom templates specific to your content needs. Custom templates can contain elements such as branding, patterns, page-level templates, and widgets developed for your organization.
Your organization and an Inkdoc administrator determine the templates available to you.
Certain organizations might still use the Inkling Platform templates, which are deprecated functionality. Contact your Inkdoc administrator if you have questions about templates.
Fonts in Habitat are fixed at a size based on your template. Some font size changes can be simulated through use of the Heading options, but you can’t adjust font sizes in elements like tables and other patterns. This ensures that text and content
can reflow or resize depending on the user’s device, so that all users have the best possible reading experience.
Habitat Inkdoc Administrators can save an Inkdoc as a template. For more information, see Use an Inkdoc as a template.
Create a New Inkdoc
- From the dashboard, click the Create New Project button in the upper-right corner or the + Create a new project button at the end of the Inkdoc list.
On the Choose a template page, select a template.
This template is the basis of the design of your Inkdoc.
Enter a title for the Inkdoc and click Create Project, or click Skip for now if you will enter the title later.
Habitat creates the new Inkdoc and opens it to the first page. When you create a new Inkdoc, Habitat grants you Admin permissions on that Inkdoc.
Once you create an Inkdoc from a template, you cannot change the underlying template. You need to create a new Inkdoc with the desired template and copy the content from the existing Inkdoc into the new project.
Contact your Inking representative for help with migrating large amounts of content from an existing Inkdoc to a new Inkdocand template. He or she can recommend possible options and third-party service providers to help complete this task.
- Click Configure Project > Project Setup > Project Info.
For more information on configuring Inkdoc settings, see Configure your Inkdoc.
Add a New Inkdoc Template
Your organization determines which templates are available to you on the Choose a template page. If you don’t see the template that you need or want to add a new template, contact the Inkdoc administrator or EchoInk User Administrator.
