After you access and finish a course, you must mark it as Complete. Whether you can successfully mark a course Complete depends on the type of course. This page identifies the different ways you can complete a course.
Sequential Courses
During course creation, course authors can choose whether the course steps must be completed sequentially. This order is determined and set by the course author before the course is distributed.
If the course requires sequential completion, you must complete the steps in a specific order. This ensures you cannot skip over a step or complete them out of order.
If the course does not require sequential completion, you can complete the course steps in any order. You can access any step in the list at any time. Other steps are not locked or greyed out.
Click Links and Complete Steps
Some Course steps involve navigating to a specific Inkdoc or external content.
If the step involves navigating to a specific Inkdoc, the Inkdoc is displayed beneath a header containing descriptive text. The system displays a Mark Complete button at the top and bottom of the Inkdoc page; tapping it saves your progress and lets you proceed to the next course step.
If the step involves navigating to external content, tapping the Open Link button opens a new tab or window in the mobile browser with the link.
After you finish accessing the external content, you can close the tab or the browser window, then tap the Mark Complete button to save your progress and proceed to the next course step.
Step Sign-off
During course creation, course authors can choose whether a step requires a Sign-off. If Sign-off is required for a course step, you must click the Trainer Initial button, which will open a window where the trainer can then enter their initials, verifying that you completed this course step.
Course Sign-off
During course creation, course authors can choose whether a course requires a Sign-off.
If course sign-off is enabled, a trainer must sign-off to acknowledge that you successfully received the training.
Trainers will see that the course is requested for sign-off as the next step. Once signed off, the course will be complete.
A course is not fully complete until a manager or supervisor provides sign-off (if required). An assignment may indicate it is past due even if all steps are completed until a manager successfully signs off on the course.
Complete a Course on Mobile
After you access and finish a course, you must mark it Complete. Follow the guide below to learn how to mark a course complete using the Inkling mobile app.
Complete Course Steps
Depending on the course and the options chosen when it was created, you can complete it in order or out of order.
For a course that must be completed in order, the first course step is available to take. However, the following course steps are greyed out. This means that you must complete each step sequentially. This ensures that you cannot skip over a step or complete them out of order.
If the course steps can be completed out of order, as shown in the screenshot below on the right, you can complete them in any order. You can access any step at any time, as the other steps will not be locked or grayed out.

Some course steps involve navigating to a specific Inkdoc or external content.
If the step involves navigating to external content, tapping the Open button opens a new tab in the mobile browser. This allows the learner to access the external content.
After the learner has finished accessing the external content, they can navigate back to the step by tapping the back arrow icon, then tap Mark Complete to save their progress and proceed to the next Course step.
Step Sign-off
During the course creation process, course authors can choose whether a step requires a trainer's Sign-off. If this function is enabled in a course step, the learner must have their trainer enter their initials in the step to verify they have completed it.
If a step is marked complete without obtaining the trainer's initial, this will be visible in the course progress details.
Course Sign-off
During course creation, course authors can choose whether a course requires a Sign-off.
If this function is enabled in a course, a trainer will need to sign off to acknowledge that the user has successfully completed the training.
Trainers will see that the course is requested for sign-off as the next step. Once signed off, the course will be complete.
