In Anthology Blackboard, EchoVideo supports the lockdown of student-created media used within an assignment submission, preventing students from editing or deleting the content after it has been submitted. This requires the creation of a new placement specifically for that purpose and is not intended for general use by instructors.
Create a New Deep Link Placement for Student Assignment Submission
- Log in to Blackboard as an Administrator.
- Click Admin from the left menu.
- Select LTI Tool Providers from the Integrations section.
- Hover over the existing EchoVideo Tool from the list and click the chevron, as shown in the figure below.
- From the menu, select Manage Placements, as shown in the figure above.
- Click Create Placement.
-
Provide a name for the Label.
Use a descriptive name, such as Student Video Submission, so users know this EchoVideo tool is for embedding media in assignments.
-
Optionally, provide a Description.
This appears in the Placements list and informs other users of the purpose of this placement.
- Enter a unique Handle for the placement.
- Select Yes for Availability.
- Select Deep Linking content tool under Type.
- Select the Allow student access checkbox.
- Scroll down to the Tool Provider Information section of the page.
- If the LTI Tool provider is configured to Set Globally, you only need to enter the Host URL value from the LMS Configurations page in EchoVideo. The other two values will already be present.
- If the LTI Tool provider is configured to Set on each link, you must provide the Consumer Key and Consumer Secret (from the LMS Integrations page in EchoVideo) in the corresponding fields.
- Add the following Tool Provider Custom Parameter:
content_intended_use=homework
- Click Submit.
Enabling the Embed Tool for Courses
Once the tool exists, ensure it is turned on for your Blackboard Courses. We recommend enabling it for both new and existing courses.
To turn the embed tool on for courses:
- Return to the Administrator Panel
- Select Tools from the Tools and Utilities section
-
Find the tool you just created and ensure the Availability is turned ON, as shown in the figure below.
The tool will appear using the Label you gave it in the steps above.
- From the Apply changes to drop-down list, select New and existing courses and organizations, as shown in the figure above.
- When finished, click Submit.
The tool will now appear as an option when a user selects to Insert / Edit LTI Item in a content window or if they select Content Market for adding to a course. In both instances, the Content Market opens and the tool you configured appears for selection.
