The look and feel of the Player is changing in December with the Q4 release.
EchoVideo allows you to configure multiple custom player styles for viewing content outside of the platform. Once configured, these styles can then be individually selected and applied when creating share links and embedding content into an LMS using the Easy Embed workflow.
For information on using a style see the following pages:
- Getting a Video's Public or Embeddable Link (for Admins)
- Generating a Web Link and Embed Code for Media
- Embedding EchoVideo Media into Blackboard Learn or Original View Courses
- Embedding EchoVideo Media in an Ultra-enabled Course

Player Style Options
- Style Name - Each custom player style must have a unique name. We recommend choosing a name that is easily identifiable for users when selecting their desired style option.
-
Active Status - This option controls whether the style is visible to users when selecting their desired style option.
Deactivation retains the style for any links or embeds currently using it, but removes it from selection for newly created links or embeds.
-
Set as Default - This option makes all newly created share links and embedded content in an LMS (created using the Easy Embed workflow) that are not using a specific style use this one.
Any embeds or links using a previous default will be updated to use this one.
-
Custom Accent Color - Appears in the player for the Title Bar, the player control overlays (play, pause, and start over), and the watched portion of the player timeline. The color you choose will automatically change the color of the text to make the Title remain visible. You can either:
- Pick from a provided set of accessibility-compliant colors.
- Enter a hex code for the specific color you want.
-
Custom Logo - Appears next to the Title in the player instead of the Institution image (if set). You can either:
- Upload a new image that will be used (and retained).
- Select from images that you or others have uploaded in the past when creating player styles.
- Suggested Dimensions - Automatically sets the size of the embedded playback frame when the style is selected (for media link embeds or for LMS/VLE embeds). Users can still choose a different size if they want to.
-
Autoplay and Automute - Automatically sets these options for playback when the style is selected. Users can still change these settings to turn these options on or off.
NOTE: If you enable Autoplay, Automute is also enabled; this is to accommodate browsers that do not allow for sound with autoplay content. You can enable Automute separately from Autoplay, however.
Viewing and Managing Player Styles
The Player Styles page provides you with an alphabetical listing of all the existing player styles you have configured for your Institution. If you have not configured any, you will only see the built-in System Style. Each custom style provides some additional insights, including if it is currently active (selectable by users when creating links or embeds) and how many links or embeds are using it.
Managing the Default Style
The default style always appears at the top, in bold. If you have not manually set one of your custom styles as the default, you will see a built-in style called "System Style" (which is the out-of-the-box EchoVideo player). You cannot edit or delete System Style, but you can replace it by setting another default. All links and embeds using the default style always update and use whatever the current default style is.
For example, if you have a custom style called "Engineering Embeds" set as the default style, every new link and embed generated by users with "Default" as the Player Style selection will use the Engineering style. Also, any pre-existing links or embeds with "Default" as the Player Style selection (without a specific style set) automatically update to use the Engineering Embeds style. If you then make Engineering Embeds inactive or delete it, everything using it will fall back to using System Style (which will also reappear on the Player Styles page). If you then set another custom style called, say, "Engineering EmbedsV2" as the default style, everything updates again to use Engineering EmbedsV2.
You can also override an existing default by editing another custom style and setting it as the default.

Deactivation retains the relationship between an in-use link and the custom style but makes the player style inaccessible when a new link or embed gets created.
