In some cases, instructors may want their students to be able to edit the transcriptions for class-published content. This allows the instructor to assign transcription editing to students in the course if desired. This capability is disabled by default.
If this feature is enabled for any given section, enrolled Students will see an Edit Transcript option in the media icon menu for the video in the class list. Enabling this feature applies to all video or audio media in the section, and applies to all students.
WARNING about cross-published content: Whenever an item is edited, transcripts or otherwise, the changes apply to ALL PUBLISHED VERSIONS of the content.
To enable student transcript editing for class published media
- Log into EchoVideo as an Institution-level administrator.
- Click the Settings icon and select Institution Settings.
General settings appears and Basic Info is selected by default.
- Click the Settings icon and select Institution Settings.
- If you are an Institution-level Administrator, select Sections Features from the options in the middle panel. The Institution is selected by default.
- The Student Transcript Editor toggle is located under Content Creation and Management, shown in the below figure.
- If you are a Designated Administrator and/or you want to set Student Transcript Editor for an Organization or Department, select Organizations and Departments from the list on the left. Section Features is selected by default, from the right panel, as shown in the below figure.
- From the Content Creation and Management section of the page, click the toggle to turn the Student Transcript Editor feature on or off. It is OFF by default. Review the warning message that appears and click Confirm.
- Check or uncheck the Allow override checkbox to determine whether this toggle setting can be changed at any of the lower levels.
NOTE: The Student Transcript Editor toggle does NOT have to be enabled at the institution level unless you want it to apply to all sections in the institution. As long as the Allow override checkbox is checked, the toggle can be configured independently at the lower levels as needed.
See Automatic Transcriptioning Service or ASR for additional details surrounding transcriptioning. See Using the EchoVideo Transcript Editor for more information and documentation to provide students for editing transcripts.
