If your institution previously used a closed-captioning provider but no longer wants to, you can turn off closed captioning (through a provider) for the institution. Turning off this option for the institution also removes the Closed Captioning tab from the Configurations page, preventing administrators from inadvertently configuring it or changing existing configurations.
The benefit of this is that the configuration remains available but is simply hidden. This allows you to turn it on later without reconfiguring the settings (provided the settings have not changed).
If you decide to utilize EchoVideo's ability to Automatically Apply Transcripts as Closed Captions for Media that meet a certain confidence threshold, you can use this setting to temporarily turn off closed captioning through a third-party provider while you determine if using the transcripts is sufficient.
Closed captions cannot be fully turned off in EchoVideo. While you can stop using third-party captioning integrations and remove the option to show captions when scheduling captures, users can still manually upload caption files to captures or videos.
To turn off closed captioning for the institution
- Log in to EchoVideo as an administrator.
- Click the Settings icon in the upper-right corner of the screen.
-
From the Settings menu, select Institution Settings.
General settings appear, and Basic Info is selected by default.
- Click Integrations from the left panel.
- Select Closed Captioning from the middle panel.
- Click the vertical action dots next to the configured capture you want to turn off and choose Edit Configuration.
- The Edit Closed Captioning modal opens.
-
Deselect the Active Status box.
- Click Save.
You can still use manually uploaded captions, and you must require captions and videos to include before they are available to students.
After confirming that you want to turn off closed captions, you can navigate to Settings >Institution Settings > Configurations and verify that the Closed Captioning tab is no longer available.
