By default, when an instructor creates an activity slide, the slide presented to students includes instructions along with a code and phone number that they can use to respond to the activity via text message (SMS). This capability applies to all types of activity slides except image quiz (as long as the slide does not require a follow-up justification).
However, some institutions are located in places where our SMS response processing provider cannot provide phone numbers local to the country. This means that students responding to activities via SMS in those locations need international texting plans or they receive invalid number messages.
For institutions where this is the case, admins can disable SMS Responses to activities. When disabled, activity slides will not contain SMS response instructions. Furthermore, once disabled, any existing activity slides that may have originally contained SMS response directions will no longer present that information.
SMS activity responses are enabled by default but can be disabled at the institution level only; it cannot be set at the organization, department, or section level.
To disable SMS Response instructions for activity slides
- Log into EchoVideo as an administrator.
- Click the Settings icon in the upper-right corner of the screen.
- From the Settings menu, select Institution Settings.
General settings appears and Basic Info is selected by default.
- Select Section Features.
- Scroll down and under Interactive Features, disable the SMS Poll Responses toggle switch (it is enabled by default).
- Click Confirm on the confirmation message that appears.
Students will see activities as they always have but those slides will no longer contain instructions for responding to the activity via text/SMS.
