Folder Analytics brings your Media View and Poll data into a single location, as Consolidated Analytics does for your EchoVideo LMS course media. Folder Analytics displays the View and Polls data for all content published in your folder, irrespective of the route to the folder. This means that analytics for content linked from the LMS / VLE and the analytics for anyone who may access the folder directly are consolidated into one view. This also allows those who do not utilize an LMS / VLE to access this data.
Views
The Views tab appears when first opening Analytics. It only contains data from playable media (Audio, Video, or Interactive Media); it does not contain Presentation data.
The Top Section of the page contains a bar graph showing relative view counts by date.
The Time Range shown on the page by default is 30 days, but you can use the dropdown list in the top-right corner to select a different range, including 7 days, 60 days, 90 days, or 12 months. Additionally, if there is no view data from the past 30 days, the dropdown will automatically attempt to select the next time range that does have view data.
The dropdown list controls all of the data on the page except the download; selecting different time frames changes both the graph and the media list below the graph but does not change what data is included in the download.
The Folder-specific Views section of the page lists all of the media associated with the folder you entered that has any view data within the selected time range. Media not viewed or downloaded during the selected time range does not appear on the list.
Media Views List
The media list on the Views page consists of audio, video, or interactive media only (no presentations). These media must have at least one view or have been downloaded during the selected time range to appear on the list. Media listed may or may not have a duration shown if, for example, a user played for only a second or two or downloaded the media without viewing it first. You can click on the media link to open a page with more granular details, as described in the next section.
By default, the media is listed in ascending order by creation date (oldest to newest).
Remember that the data shown for each media may change based on the time range selected if views or downloads were executed at times that fall within different ranges (i.e., past 7 days vs. 30 days).
The data shown for each media in the list includes the following:
- Media Name - The name of the media.
- Unique Viewers - The number of different users who have viewed this media within the selected time range.
- Total Views - The total number of views executed by all users within the selected time range.
- Duration - Your media's duration (length in hh:mm:ss).
- Total View Time - All users' total media viewing time for this media in the selected time range.
- Average View Time - This media's average viewing time during each view is calculated as total view time divided by the total number of views.
- Average % Viewed - The average percentage of the individual media viewed across all users (regardless of the total view count).
- VOD Views - Number of times users viewed the processed video file (as opposed to a live stream).
- Live View Count - Number of times users clicked View Live Stream during the live stream (if applicable).
Detailed Media View Data
Each entry in the media list is an active link. Clicking on a link opens a page with more detailed information for the selected media. Specifically, the page shows all user viewing details for all users who have viewed or interacted with the media at any time.
The data on the media view details page is not subject to the time range on the main page. That means you may click on a piece of media that shows 2 views in the main list but open a page showing many more. This is because the 2 views in the main list occurred during the selected time range, but more views / downloads occurred outside that time range.
The top card includes the media's name, type, length, and the date it was added. From here, you can click Open Media to open the Media Details Page for the media. Expand the card to see the media's owner, creation date, unique Media ID, description, and tags (if any).
The middle cards provide the following data:
- Top Viewers - The top three students with the most views of the media.
- View Breakout - The percentage of Video on Demand (VOD) views versus the percentage of Live Views.
-
Average View Time - This is the average user's media viewing time for this media. It is calculated by taking the total view time and dividing it by the total views. If this media was initially broadcast as a live stream (except from legacy SCHD appliances), the time spent viewing the live stream is included. Legacy SCHD appliances do not provide time-viewed data for live streams.
The view time references in the data do not consider the speed at which the media was viewed. If a user viewed 20 minutes of a 30-minute video at 2x speed while they spent 10 real-time minutes viewing the media, our View Time data shows they viewed 20 minutes of the video.
- Total Downloads - The number of times this media has been downloaded for offline viewing (if downloads are possible).
The data provided for each user shown includes the following:
- Total Views - Total number of views logged by the user.
- Total View Time - Total media viewing time for this user for this media.
-
Average View Time - This is the average user's viewing time for this media. It is calculated by taking the total view time and dividing it by the total views. If this media was originally broadcast as a live stream (except from legacy SCHD appliances), this includes the time spent viewing the live stream.
- Average % Viewed - The total percentage viewed for this user for this media (regardless of the total view count).
- Total % Viewed - An aggregated percentage of all viewing sessions. If I've watched 15 minutes of a 20-minute video, it will show 75%. This is aggregated across all sessions, so watching the same segment twice would only count the time stamps once.
- VOD Views - The number of times this user viewed the processed video file (as opposed to a live stream).
- Live View Count - The number of times this user clicked View Live Stream during the live stream (if applicable, and not for live streams from SCHD appliances).
- Download Count - The number of times this user downloaded this media for offline viewing (if downloads are possible).
- First Viewed - The date this user first viewed this media.
- Last Viewed - The date this user last viewed this media.
Polls
The Polls tab for the folder, shown in the figure below, allows you to see all the responses to the polling questions included in interactive media in a Session.
The top section of the Polling Tab includes an Overview, which provides at-a-glance performance data for all polling questions across all sessions in the folder.
Total Response Rate is a percentage of possible responses given to polls across the folder. This is a calculation of the number of enrolled students times the number of polls in all media in the folder(both presentations and interactive media), divided by the actual number of responses.
Total Correct is the total number of correct vs incorrect responses given to polls across the folder. The calculation only considers polls that can and do have a correct response identified.
Below the Overview, you will find two dropdown lists. The Media dropdown list allows you to select a particular media piece to view polling responses.
The Poll Question dropdown list allows you to see summary polling response data across the class, or to select a particular Poll Question to see detailed response data. All is selected by default.
Student Responses appear at the bottom of the page and provide either summary or detailed response information corresponding with the Media and Poll Question selections. This is discussed in more detail below.
The student response information includes the student's response and the date and time the student responded. This can be useful if you have given a deadline for viewing the media and answering the included questions. More specifically:
- For interactive media, the date / time is when the student responded or saw the question (if no response was given).
- For polling slides in a presentation, the date / time is for the most recent response given, as students can edit their responses up until the moment an instructor closes polling for the slide.
If the student has not seen or responded to the poll, the time / date field is blank.
To view responses to polling questions
- Navigate into a folder and open Analytics > Polling, as shown in the figure above.
- Select a Media from the dropdown list. The list contains only media that has interactive media or slide decks with polling slides.
- Select a Poll Question from the dropdown list to view detailed response information for that poll.
Whether you view All or select a particular question, the area below the dropdown lists changes to show data appropriate to your selection.
The Overview ribbon, however, does not change with any page selections. The overview applies to all polls in all classes across the course.
Downloading Views and Polling Data
The Views tab and the Polls tab contain a Download Data button, shown in the figures on this page. Like all downloads from EchoVideo, the file downloaded is a comma-separated values (CSV) file, and can be opened as a flat file or in a spreadsheet program like Microsoft Excel or Apple Numbers. The Views Data Download can also be downloaded as a ZIP file of selected media data.
Views Data Download
Like all data on the Views page, the Views data download is subject to the Time Range dropdown list. The downloaded file lists viewing details for each user who has viewed the media within the selected time frame.
The downloaded file's filename includes the folder name and the data's date range, with start and end dates in UTC.
Polls Data Download
Unlike the Views data, the Polls data download is not limited by time range. The Polls page and the downloads from the page include all polling responses for all polling questions in all interactive media or presentations associated with the folder.
The downloaded file's filename includes the folder name and the date and time the file was generated (when you clicked Download Data) in your local time.
