LMS Automatic Folder Provisioning allows institutions to create a link in the LMS, which will automatically create a Folder based on the details of the LMS course. Users are automatically granted membership to the Folder based on their Role. This mimics the LMS Course Provisioning that already exists.
This is an LTI 1.3 feature and relies on Folders being enabled in Feature Spotlight.
New LMS folders will be automatically created in the LTI Parent folder. After initial creation, the automatically provisioned folders can be moved to different locations without breaking the LTI link.

Brightspace by D2L
- Create an additional configuration. It will follow the same settings as Analytics but
/folders
must be appended to the Target Link URL. - Add the Folder link to the course.
This is done by going to the course, selecting Add Existing, and then clicking External Tool Activity.
- Select the new placement from the list.
Moodle
Moodle does not natively support placements for LTI 1.3 so you must create configurations for each one of our placements using the add activity or resource options within the page and searching for the configuration. You want to ensure the name of each configuration added matches what the tool does so it can be found. When duplicating a configuration, you will get warnings to change the end of the url to analytics or folders.
- Create an additional configuration with the following changes:
-
Tool URL: Add
/folders
to the end. - Default launch container: Supports Deep Linking (Content-Item Message) should remain unchecked.
-
Tool URL: Add
- Create the Tool Placement.
This is done by going to the course, enabling editing by clicking Add an activity or resource, and selecting the Folder tool that was just created.
- Name the activity.
- Click Save and Display.
The LMS folder will be automatically provisioned.
