How does search work?
Knowledge search searches titles and inside the Inkdoc.
Search first looks for:
- An exact match in Inkdoc titles
- An exact match in Inkdoc page titles
If the search does not find an exact title match, it will look for:
- In-page results that contain an exact phrase match.
- In-page results that contain all search terms, and the terms can be in any order.
- In-page results that contain any of the search terms, but not all.
Beyond that, we start to get into the algorithms of the search engine that can’t easily be explained in layman’s terms, but it takes into account term frequency, inverse document frequency (how rare the term is relative to other terms in the query), and coordination (number of terms from the query in the document), etc.
Can I search for an exact phrase?
Yes! With quotation marks. For example, if you type “key takeaways” without quotes, you will get content containing the word “key” or “takeaways.” If you type “Key takeaways,” including the quotes, you will find content with the exact phrase, Key takeaways.
