BUILDING BLOCK END-OF-LIFE ANNOUNCEMENT
As of
30 Dec 2024, the Anthology (Blackboard) Building Block
will officially reach its end of life for use with EchoVideo.
Prior to the end-of-life date of December 30th, 2024, all
Building
Block content must be converted to LTI 1.1 Deep Links. For more information
from Anthology, please see
Convert Building Block Content to LTI.
For more information from us, please see
Building Block to LTI Migration Overview
and
Converting Blackboard Building Block Content to LTI 1.1 Deep Links.
NOTE that while migrating to LTI 1.3 may appear to be an option within Blackboard,
it has not been fully tested by us. We are only supporting migrating to LTI 1.1.
Anthology (Blackboard) no longer supports Building Blocks (in most cases) and instead supports LTI. For more information about managing Building Blocks within Blackboard, see Manage Learn Building Blocks. With the deprecation of Building Blocks, you must convert your EchoVideo Building Block content to LTI. To do this, Anthology (Blackboard) has supplied:
- A content conversion tool that converts Building Block links to LTI links in Original Courses.
- A process for auto-conversion of Building Block links for EchoVideo content to LTI when importing an Original course or restoring an Original course archive.
Things to note about moving away from the Building Block:
- LTI-based integrations do not currently support the Student Assignments & Submission functionality that you may be used to with the Building Block. We are actively working with Anthology on a solution.
- Building Block content cannot be converted or migrated straight to LTI 1.3, you can only go to LTI 1.1.
- Core deep links are already LTI content so they are not converted.
- Any LTI link in an Original course is not converted because it is already LTI content.
- The conversion tool only converts links created through the Building Block.
- The conversion tool validates the standalone links within the course to change the way those are processed. This prevents standalone links from breaking after the Building Block deactivates.
- A temporary archive of the course is created before conversion. In case there is a problem with the content or the conversion, you can restore the course.
Migrating from the legacy EchoVideo Building Block to LTI 1.1:
- If you have not already, set up an LTI 1.1 Integration.
- Make sure you have created a Deep Link Placement, as well as any others desired, for the new LTI 1.1 Integration.
- Identify the Blackboard courses that contain Building Block content.
- Run the Content Conversion tool within Blackboard.
- Optionally, reach out to Blackboard support to enable auto-conversion of content.
Automatic Conversion of Content Links
Anthology (Blackboard) automatically converts Building Block links to LTI for EchoVideo when importing an Original course or restoring an Original archive. The automatic conversion ensures that course content transitions to LTI. This will promote consistency and adaptability across all Anthology (Blackboard) courses.
For administrators: To ensure the auto-conversion of building block links to LTI, review the following:
- You must configure each building block to the Migration Service Settings section of the Conversion tool in the Admin Panel. Configure each associated LTI integration before converting the links.
- You can enable/disable this functionality through a feature flag via a support ticket with the Blackboard team.
