This page describes working with the image quiz polling form itself. If you need help on how to get to this form, see Creating a Poll or Editing Polls as necessary.

Image quiz polls include question text and an uploaded image. You can mark an area of the image as the solution location for the question, or not if there is no "correct" answer.

As with most polling questions, you can also request students justify their responses. Students enter the supplemental response into a freeform text box.

Image polls in a presentation cannot be responded to via SMS.

Required fields

The main section at the top of the image poll contains a Question field and a Choose Image button, as shown in the below figure. Question text and an uploaded image are required for all image polls.

If you are adding or editing an image poll in the interactive media editor, Time placement is also required but is pre-populated with either the current location of the existing poll (if editing) or the current location of the media playback (for creating a new poll, as shown below).

Click into the Question field and type (or edit) the question you want to ask.

Click Choose Image to upload an image file from either your local computer or from a shared drive location. Standard image file types are supported, such as .jpg, .gif, .png, .bmp, .svg, .tif, among others.

The Filestack dialog box provides shared drive-type locations on the left side of the dialog box as shown below. Select the one you want, or click the plus icon in the center of the dialog box to upload from your local computer.

Once selected and uploaded, the image appears in the poll form, along with an Image Alt Text field, as shown in the figure below.

While the alt text field is optional, it is recommended. Enter brief but descriptive text to provide context about the uploaded image to non-sighted and low-sighted users. You can enter up to 500 characters.

If you want to CHANGE the image in the poll, click the Trash Can icon on the image, visible in the below figure, to remove the existing one, then repeat the above instructions to upload a different image.

The Time placement field appears if you open the image poll while editing interactive media. The field is pre-populated with either the current location of playback (for creating) OR the current location of the poll in the interactive media (for editing).

Click the Time placement field to change the location for the poll in the media. The timestamp you enter must:

• Be in hh:mm:ss format
• Be a valid location within the duration of the media
• NOT be within the intro or outro clip segment (the part added by the institution at the front or the back of the video, if there is one)
• NOT be at the same location of another poll in the media.

Don't worry; the poll won't let you save it if the time placement doesn't meet the criteria, and it will show you an error indicating what you have to change.

Marking the solution

Click Mark Solution to identify the area on the uploaded image that is the solution to the question you are asking. THIS IS OPTIONAL. Image polls do not require a correct answer to be identified.

In the popup modal that appears, use your mouse to click and drag over the solution area. A yellow box covers the image area you identify, as shown in the below figure.

Click Clear to remove the solution overlay and re-select it.

Click Save to save the solution marking.

If you mark a solution, the solution overlay appears on the image in the poll as shown in the below figure.

Require justification means that when a student responds, they will receive a text box where they can enter freeform text to justify or explain their submission. This is OPTIONAL.

If you are looking for specific follow-up information from the student, be sure to clearly state that in the Question text.

At this point, you can enter feedback for students as described below, or you can simply click DONE to save the poll.

Providing Feedback for Responses

Click the Feedback chevron to expand the dialog box and display the Feedback text fields available, as shown in the below figure.

Image Polls can contain Correct answer and Incorrect answer feedback boxes OR a General Feedback text box if no solution is identified. The student sees feedback based on their answer (correct or incorrect) or all students will see general feedback text if the poll does not have a correct answer.

Enter text in the feedback box(es) to provide students with additional information or guidance surrounding the question (and their answer). You can enter up to 1000 characters in each field. 

ALL FEEDBACK IS OPTIONAL.

Line breaks are not included when the feedback is shown to students. You can use them for entering text, but students will see your sentences as a single, unbroken "paragraph". Use punctuation accordingly.

Interactive media polls display feedback for students after the student submits their response.

Presentation polls will display feedback AFTER the instructor closes the poll and shows the correct answer (if there is one). The buttons for doing so on polling slides are identified in the image at the bottom of this page. Note that only students who have responded to the poll will see feedback.

Previewing and Saving the poll

While you are making additions or edits to the poll, you can stop to preview what you are doing at any time by clicking the Preview button, located in the bottom left corner of the poll form.

The Preview shows the question text and the correct answer. It does not show the Feedback entries. The figure below shows a completed image poll with a marked solution.

If you are happy with the poll click Close Preview, and then if necessary click Done to save your work.

Note that from the poll editor, both the Close Preview and Edit Poll buttons do the same thing; return you to the poll editor. If you are previewing a poll from the interactive media editor, Close Preview closes the preview and returns you to the interactive media editor. Edit Poll takes you to the poll editor, described on this page.

What students see

Below is an image of what the above image poll looks like to students in a piece of interactive media.

After the student submits their answer, text from the appropriate Feedback field is displayed, as shown in the below figure.

Below is an image of what the above image poll placed into a presentation looks like to a student in a classroom.

The Feedback text does NOT show up for the student until the poll is closed to further responses and the correct answer is shown for students. The student must also have submitted an answer before the poll was closed to see the Feedback text.
