The look and feel of the Player is changing! Upcoming changes are identified in this article by providing screenshots labeled "Old UI" and "New UI".
Editing interactive media involves adding and removing embedded polling questions from the media, moving the embedded polls to a different location in the video, and in some cases, editing the polling questions themselves.
If you have not yet added polls to a video to create a piece of interactive media, see Embedding Polls to Create Interactive Media. This article is for editing that media once it exists.
To edit interactive media, you select Edit Polls from either the tile menu in the Library or from the media details page, as shown below.

After you click Edit Polls, you are presented with the interactive media player, and two tabs at the bottom: Library Polls and Embedded Polls. Embedded Polls appear by default and show all of the polling questions currently embedded in this piece of media.
Library polls can be filtered by Poll Type and sorted by Date Created, Name, and Owner.

From here you can select and embed more polls from your library, delete polls, change the location of the embedded polls in the media, and edit the polling question itself (question text and / or response options). The following sections provide procedures.
You cannot edit the video portion of this media once it has polls embedded. If you need to edit the video, you must edit the original video and re-embed polls into it AFTER editing. This creates a new piece of interactive media.
Embedding a Polling Question
Embedding a polling question into a video means either creating a new poll and adding it, or selecting an existing poll from your Library. Remember that you can edit the polling question if you need to after it has been added.
There are two suggested methods for embedding polls into a video; use the one that fits with your personal workflow:
- Carefully playback, embed, and edit (if necessary) each poll into the proper locations in the video.
- Select and embed all of the polls into their approximate locations, then go back and edit the polls and placement locations after they have all been embedded.
Because creating a poll both creates and embeds it, the steps below are for embedding a poll from your existing poll library. It is important to note, however, that when creating a new poll for your interactive media, those new polls are not saved to your library until you SAVE the interactive media changes.
To embed additional polls in media
- Find the media into which you want to embed more polls, and select Edit Polls as shown at the top of this page.
- In the playback panel, move the playhead (play and pause, use the arrow keys, click-drag) to the location you want the new poll to reside (it doesn't have to be exact, but being close is helpful).
- Click Library Polls in the bottom section of the page.
- Use the Search bar and the Filters to find the poll you want to use.
- Select the poll. A preview pane appears.
- If necessary, use the arrow button identified in the below figure to scroll up and down in the poll to see all response options. You can edit these after adding this poll to the media if necessary
- If this is the poll you want, click Add Poll. If it is not, click Close and select a different poll.
- Repeat these steps from step 2, to embed more polling questions into this media
- After each poll / all polls are added (depending on your preferred workflow), click Embedded Polls in the bottom section of the page. This shows all the polls currently embedded in the video and allows you to edit them as needed.
Old UI
New UI
- Click on a poll to view it in the playback area of the player. At this point, you have several options:
- Click the pencil to edit the polling question itself.
- Use the timestamp boxes and arrow buttons to change the location of the poll in the video.
-
Click the trash can to DELETE the polling question from the video.
BE CAREFUL! Deleting a poll does not provide a warning. If you have not saved this edited media yet, you cannot undo the deletion. However, the poll you added still resides in your library and can be re-added and re-edited (if necessary).
- When you are finished adding and editing the embedded polls, click Save.
- Click the Library option from the top menu to return to your library.
From your Library, you can find the interactive media you just edited and click on the tile to open the media details page. If you create new polls to add to the video, those will also be visible in your library.
Editing a Polling Question
Once a poll is embedded, it becomes its own entity and can be edited to be specific to the media it is in. Editing the embedded poll does NOT change the poll in your library used to generate it. The reverse is also true; editing a poll in your library repository does not change any of the embedded versions of that poll.
Editing an embedded poll means editing the question text, the response options, the identified correct answer, or the timestamp of the question location. You cannot change the TYPE of polling question it is by editing; you must add a different poll if you want a different type of question.
If you prefer the polls in your library repository be as specific as necessary so as not to have to edit them after embedding, see Editing Polls. The instructions below are for editing the polls that have already been embedded into a video.
To edit a polling question
- Find the media containing the polling questions you want to change, and select Edit Polls as shown at the top of this page.
- Click Embedded Polls in the bottom section of the page (shown in the image above). This tab lists all the currently embedded polls.
-
Click ON the embedded poll you want to edit. A preview of it appears in the playback section of the page, as shown in the below figure.
Old UI
New UI
- If this is the poll you want, click the Menu icon, on the poll, then select Edit Poll as identified in the above figure. ALTERNATELY you can click the Pencil icon, also identified above.
- Use the Edit poll popup that appears to make your changes. If you have used activity / polling slides for presentation slide decks, this pop-up will look familiar to you. An example is shown in the below figure.
- Make your changes to the placement timestamp (where in the media it is embedded), the question text, the response options (if any), and the marked correct answer (if any). You can also select / deselect whether or not students are required to provide a justification for their response.
- When finished, click Done.
Your changes are reflected in the polling question embedded in the video. The original poll used to embed this question into the video is unchanged.
Editing a Polling Question Location
As noted in the above procedure, you can edit the embedded location as a function of editing the polling question itself. If you do not need to make changes to the polling question itself, you can edit the location of the poll in the video directly from the Embedded Polls tab.
To edit the polling question location
- Find the media containing the embedded poll you want to change, and select Edit Polls as shown at the top of this page.
- Click Embedded Polls in the bottom section of the page. This tab lists all the currently embedded polling questions.
-
Click ON the embedded poll you want to move. The tab changes to show editing options for this particular polling question, including the poll location timestamp. Remember that the poll location placement is also indicated with a dot on the playback timeline.
Old UI
New UI
- Click into the timestamp box to manually type a new location. The format must be hh:mm:ss.
-
Use the Forward and Reverse arrows to change the timestamp by one second in either direction.
NOTE: Multiple Polling Questions cannot occupy the same time slot. They must be offset by at least one second, however, you can have as many questions located next to each other as you want.
- Select a different embedded polling question and repeat these steps or the other editing steps as needed.
- Click Save when you are finished.
- Click Library from the top menu to return to your library.
Deleting a Polling Question
You can remove any embedded polling questions from the media as necessary. Remember that deleting the polling question, just like editing, does not affect the Poll used to create it. The poll remains in your library.
BE CAREFUL! There is NO warning message when deleting a polling question from interactive media. While you can cancel out of editing mode, this cancels ALL changes made since you last Saved. If you did more than accidentally delete the embedded polling question, those changes will also be lost. If you do accidentally delete a polling question, you can simply re-add the poll and re-edit the polling question if applicable.
To delete an embedded polling question
- Find the media containing the polling question you want to remove and select Edit Polls as shown at the top of this page.
- Click Embedded Polls in the bottom section of the page. This tab lists all the currently embedded polling questions.
-
Click ON the embedded poll you want to remove. Notice that the tab changes to show options for this particular polling question, including a delete button.
Old UI
New UI
- If you are CERTAIN this is the polling question you want to delete, click the Delete icon. It looks like a trash can.
- When the page refreshes the deleted polling question no longer appears in the Embedded Polls page, and the location identifier for it in the playback timeline is also removed.
- Click Save if you are finished. Click Cancel to cancel all changes made since you either opened the editor or last selected to Save.
The embedded poll is removed from this media. The poll you selected to generate the embedded polling question remains in your Library.
