If your administrator has configured an EchoVideo embed media tool for your D2L/Brightspace environment, Students can also embed EchoVideo media into Brightspace content windows. This includes the ability to respond to Assignments using their EchoVideo media.
Two points to be aware of surrounding the embed media for the assignments feature and Brightspace:
- The student library must be enabled, or the student must have the Post permission within one or more Collections, to submit EchoVideo media for an assignment.
- Brightspace assignment submissions are not "locked down" in EchoVideo; students can still edit or delete the submitted media.
This article provides instructions for creating an Assignment in Brightspace that allows students to submit EchoVideo media, as well as brief instructions for submitting EchoVideo media for a Brightspace assignment. Students can also refer to Embedding EchoVideo Media into Brightspace, as the instructions are essentially the same.
To create a Brightspace assignment for EchoVideo media submission:
- Log in to Brightspace as an instructor and navigate to a course.
- Click Assignments from the top course navigation bar.
- Click New Assignment to add an assignment, as shown in the figure below.
- In the New Assignment page, provide a name for the assignment and instructions or a description of the task.
- On the right side of the form, open the Submission & Completion panel, and select Text submission as the submission type, as shown in the below figure. This adds the Insert Stuff button to the content window, allowing students to embed their EchoVideo media.
- Complete any other portions of the assignment form necessary.
Only the Text submission selection is needed for EchoVideo media responses from students. All other aspects are configured at your discretion. - When finished, click Save and Close.
When students view the new assignment, they are presented with a content window for their submission, from which they can select the Insert Stuff button to use the EchoVideo embed media tool, as described below.
Submitting EchoVideo Media for Brightspace Assignments
Students can use the Insert Stuff button to select and submit their EchoVideo media as a response to a Brightspace assignment. Students can submit any media they own, as well as any media from any Collection where they have the Post permission. The ability to select Collection media allows students to work together on group projects and then submit the final media for review or grading.
To submit EchoVideo media for a Brightspace assignment
- Log in to Brightspace as a student and navigate to your course.
- Click Assignments from the top course navigation bar.
- Click on the assignment you are submitting for.
- On the assignment page, click the Insert Stuff button for the content window, as identified in the below figure.
-
From the Insert Stuff options list, select the option labeled Embed EchoVideo media. It may be titled EchoVideo Media Library or something similar.
A dialog box appears, displaying a content selection screen with the options available to you. Click the Launch Media Picker option to choose from your existing content and see the EchoVideo audio, video, or interactive media you own, as well as media in any Collection where you have the Post permission. If you need to upload media to embed, click the Upload Content option and follow the instructions at the link if needed.
- If necessary, use the Search text box and / or Filter options to find the media you want to embed in the window.
-
Select the media you want to embed and click Next.
The dialog box changes to show the selected media and playback configuration options, all of which are described below the figure.
If you want to post a link to the media instead of embedding it directly into the page, enable the Link toggle and, if necessary, see Posting a Link to EchoVideo Media in your LMS / VLE Course.
If you want to embed multiple items together as a Playlist, see EchoVideo: Creating Playlists in your LMS / VLE Course. -
From the Player Style drop-down list, select the style you want to be applied to the player.
The Player Style drop-down only appears if your institution has created custom player styles. If you have selection options, pick the one for your department or organization (or the default) that you want applied to the playback of this media.
Selecting a style may automatically select Size, Autoplay, and Automute options for you; these can still be changed. - From the Select size drop-down list, select the size for the media playback. It is 640x420 by default.
- If appropriate, enable the Autoplay option (the video will play as soon as a user opens the page you are embedding it in).
- If you enable Autoplay, Automute is automatically enabled to accommodate browsers that no longer allow autoplay with sound. You can enable Automute separately without Autoplay.
- If appropriate, set a Start At time. If set, the video will begin playing at that timestamp, but viewers can rewind / fast-forward the player to view any segment of the embedded video.
This option is not available for interactive media. - If desired, disable the Discussion option to prevent EchoVideo Q&A from appearing on your embedded content.
- When finished, click Embed.
-
A preview of your selected media appears in the Insert Stuff dialog box. If this is the item you want to submit, click Insert, as shown below.
The inserted media appears in the content window, as shown below.
- If necessary, add text to accompany the embedded media. This is optional.
- When finished, click Submit.
Your media has been submitted as the response to this assignment. The instructor can view the media when they review the student submissions.
