Stuck In A Login Loop? If you normally log in to your institution portal to access Echo360 (a process called SSO or single-sign-on), and you are trying to log into the Mobile Apps, you may find yourself stuck in a login-loop. Here is what happens:
- You enter your email, then log in through the Institution login page, but are then pushed back to the main Echo360 login screen instead of entering the application.
If this describes what you are seeing, contact your help desk or system administrator. There is a change that the administrator must make on their side to address the problem before you can use the Echo360 Mobile App.
The information on this page is designed to help users who access Echo360 through their university portal or third-party system, and who otherwise do NOT need a direct-login password to Echo360 to establish one.
Do you need a password?
If your institution uses SSO (single-sign-on), and you normally log in through the university portal, the answer is likely "no". All of Echo360 access, including the main platform, the mobile apps, and Universal Capture software all support logging in through your institution's SSO.
If you don't know if this is your situation, enter your email into the login page. If you are taken to the university portal login and returned, you have an SSO login. No need for a separate Echo360 password.
If you are an LMS/VLE user (Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, Brightspace, or Sakai) but do NOT have an SSO login, you will need a direct login password to use the Echo360 Mobile Apps or Universal Capture: Personal software. This password will also work on the main portal login page.
The ONLY Echo360 application that always requires a direct login (username and password with Echo360) is the Windows PowerPoint Ribbon Add-on. But this feature has been placed into maintenance mode and is likely to be deprecated in the near future.
Creating an Echo360 Password
This page assumes that you are already accessing Echo360 through your university portal or through an LMS/VLE. If you are a direct-login user, you should have already established your password through the Registration and Login process.
The easiest thing to do is to create your password using the Account Settings page, as described in the below procedure.
Alternately, you CAN enter your email address on the portal login page (echo360.net.au, echo360.org.uk, echo360.org, echo360.ca - depending on where you live), then use either the reset password link provided there or submit your email address for login and use the automatically generated email to set your password. See Logging Into Echo360 if you need more information.
Password Criteria
The password you create can be the same as or different from your LMS/VLE or Institution portal password, as long as it meets the Echo360 password complexity requirements listed below
Creating an Echo360 password has no effect on your LMS/VLE or SSO login. You will continue to use your those credentials as you always have. The Echo360 password is strictly for accessing Echo360 directly through a browser or to access an Echo360 application like universal capture.
Echo360 requires passwords of at least nine characters and be of a certain strength.
Here are some tips for generating a usable password:
- Avoid single dictionary words (ch@racter substitutions don't h3lp either - too easy to guess)
- DO use multiple words, foreign words, or an uncommon phrase - include letters/numbers/characters to improve strength
- Avoid alphanumeric or keyboard sequences such as abcd, 1234, qwerty, 09876
- Avoid your name or any location or dates associated with you (including recent/future years)
To create an Echo360 password:
- Enter Echo360 as you normally do, via a link to Echo360 from the LMS or other institution platform.
- Click the Settings icon (it looks like a gear) then select Account Settings.
- In the password area of the User Info section, click CREATE PASSWORD.
NOTE: If the button reads CHANGE, this means you already have an Echo360 password. If you do not know what it is, navigate to echo360.org (or your regional URL) then click the Click here to reset link located on that page.
See also Changing your Echo360 Password for additional information if necessary. - In the Create password dialog box that appears, enter your Echo360 password then confirm it.
It can be the same as or different than your LMS/VLE or institution password, as long as you remember what it is and it meets the Echo360 complexity requirements.
- When finished, click SAVE.
Your email address along with the password you just established is the login you will use for logging into the Mobile App, the PowerPoint Ribbon Add On, or Universal Capture: Personal or Classroom if necessary. REMEMBER that the Mobile Apps and Universal Capture both work with institution SSO logins and do not require separate passwords.
