These Release Notes contain a summary of changes made for the December 14-15, 2021 release of EchoVideo. For changes made in previous deployments, see the other Release Notes articles located in this Topic group, or contact support@echo360.com.
Upcoming Deployment Schedule
EchoVideo and its employees will be observing the year-end holidays, and taking some much-needed time off to spend with friends and family. To accommodate the December/January holidays and the vacation time for employees, EchoVideo will not be releasing changes at the end of December, as would ordinarily occur with a two-week deployment cycle.
Therefore, the next deployments will occur as follows:
- December 14-15, 2021 (this one)
- January 11-12, 2022 (4 weeks after previous)
SPECIAL NOTICE
EchoVideo is aware of the recently disclosed security issue affecting the open-source Apache Log4j2 utility https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2021-44228
(CVE-2021-44228).
We are actively evaluating and monitoring any EchoVideo services that may be affected by this issue. At this time our security team has found no critical vulnerabilities. In addition, we have mitigating measures in place, in order to limit our exposure to any issues that may arise in the future.
For more details, see Log4j2 CVE-2021-44228 Vulnerability and EchoVideo. We will continue to update that article as necessary.
New Features
You can now Combine Video Media
The EchoVideo Media Editor is going to be getting some new features over the next several releases and the first one, Insert Media, is now available! Insert Media allows you to start with one video and add other videos to it (up to a total duration of 8 hours). You can continue to trim segments from both the original and the added media until you have a compilation that works for you.
This feature allows you to stitch together recordings that may have been captured separately for whatever reason, but are better viewed together. It allows you to create Universal Capture: Personal recordings, but re-record and replace that segment in the middle where your child decided to play pantomime behind you, without having to re-do the whole thing.
In addition, with the coming features for the media editor, we have reorganized the documentation to make the instructions easier to find and use.
See Using the EchoVideo Media Editor, Trimming Videos and Splitting Videos into Multiple Files, and Removing Video Segments and Inserting Media.
Users may need to clear browser cache: For users who may still be seeing the Scissors Icon in the media editor instead of the new menu button on the cut marker, clearing browser cache and reloading the editor page resolves this issue.
LMS/VLE Users can now embed media from Groups
As you may know, changes are coming to our current Groups implementation. We are working furiously to get those finished off, polished up, and out to you. To start with, we have added the ability for users to be able to embed shared media from their Groups into their LMS/VLE courses, in addition to the existing ability to share media they own.
For any Group where you have the Post permission (either explicitly or because you are a Group Manager), the media in that group will now appear in the Embed Media dialog box you see when selecting to embed media through the EchoVideo Easy Embed tool.
See also Managing Group Member Rights and Permissions for more information about the previous updates to the Groups Membership page, and the access levels and permissions available in Groups.
LMS/VLE Course Capture Scheduling Tool for Moodle
Continuing to make Simplified Provisioning even more simple, we have added Moodle to the list of available LMS API configurations that provide LMS course data directly into the capture scheduling interface.
This allows EchoVideo Administrators to obtain a list of LMS Courses, based on LMS instructor email address, and automatically create EchoVideo courses and sections to hold the recordings generated by the capture schedule. Those new sections correspond to and are automatically linked with the LMS course.
For more information, see Configuring EchoVideo for Moodle Course Lookup and Capture Scheduling and Linking an EchoVideo Capture Schedule to an LMS Course.
This feature was made available for Canvas with the October 5-6, 2021 deployments, and available for Blackboard with the November 16-17, 2021 deployments.
Enhancements
Media Tracks of different lengths now padded to match – Primarily encountered with uploaded media, if the video duration is different than the audio track duration, the shorter of the two tracks is now “padded” to match the longer one. The audio is padded with silence; the video is padded with the final frame of the track appearing while the audio completes.
Fixes
- Addressed a problem where a user could fail to fully delete media their library if that media was published to an EchoVideo section where that user is not an instructor.
- Resolved an issue surrounding marking/re-marking the correct answer location in Image polls was not working correctly in Safari.
- Addressed an issue where public section access links would direct users to the login page instead of directly into the section.
- Fixed an issue where a 4-hour or more duration capture could fail to complete media processing after being edited.
- Fixed an issue where the media editor could still be controlled using shortcut keys when a dialog is open on the screen.
