With ExamView Student, you can respond to questions on an online test or knowledge check from anywhere. Possible question types include Multiple Choice, Multiple Response, True / False, Yes / No, Numeric Response, Completion, Matching, and Short Answer.
Responding to Online Test Questions
To use ExamView Student, you must log in using your Student ID, an Online Test ID, and a test password. Your instructor will provide these to you. ExamView Student: Logging Into an Online Test
- You can respond to the questions at your own pace from anywhere.
- The arrows towards the top allow you to navigate from one question to the next. Each question is numbered and includes an abbreviation of the question type (for example, MC is a Multiple Choice question).
- You can click the dropdown next to the question to see a complete list of all questions on the test and whether they have been answered.
- The question is displayed in the question area. Answer options are displayed below the question.
- You can answer the questions in any order.
- Answered questions display your answer in the answer area.
- You can return to a question and change your answer.
Multiple Choice Questions
Multiple Choice questions display the question and answer choices. You must select one answer choice. Multiple Choice questions are abbreviated “MC” in the test navigation menu.
- In the answer options area below the question, click the letter or number that corresponds to the answer choice.
- Click the Save icon.
A confirmation window opens with the answer choice you chose and a prompt.
- Click OK to save the answer.
- Click Cancel to close the window and change your answer.
Multiple Response Questions
Multiple Response questions display the question and answer choices. You may select one or more responses to a question. Multiple Response questions are abbreviated “MR” in the test navigation menu.
- In the answer options area below the question, click the letters or numbers that correspond to the answer choice.
- Click the Save icon.
A confirmation window opens with the answer choice you chose and a prompt.
- Click OK to save the answer.
- Click Cancel to close the window and change your answer.
True / False Questions
True / False questions display the question and answer choices. You must select one answer choice. True / False questions are abbreviated “TF” in the test navigation menu.
- In the answer options area below the question, click either True or False.
- Click the Save icon.
A confirmation window opens with the answer choice you chose and a prompt.
- Click OK to save the answer.
- Click Cancel to close the window and change your answer.
Yes / No Questions
Yes / No questions display the question and answer choices. You must select one answer choice. Yes / No questions are abbreviated “YN” in the test navigation menu.
- In the answer options area below the question, click either Yes or No.
- Click the Save icon.
A confirmation window opens with the answer choice you chose and a prompt.
- Click OK to save the answer.
- Click Cancel to close the window and change your answer.
Matching Questions
Matching questions display the question and answer choices. You must select one answer choice. Matching questions are abbreviated “MA” in the test navigation menu.
- In the answer options area below the question, click the letter or number that corresponds to the answer choice.
- Click the Save icon.
A confirmation window opens with the answer choice you chose and a prompt.

- Click Cancel to close the window and change your answer.
Numeric Response Questions
Numeric Response questions display the question and an answer field for you to type your response. Numeric Response questions are abbreviated “NR” in the test navigation menu.
- Click the blank answer field below the question.
- Use your device keyboard to type in your answer.
- Click the Save icon.
A confirmation window opens with the answer choice you chose and a prompt.
- Click OK to save the answer.
- Click Cancel to close the window and change your answer.
Completion, Short Answer, Case, Essay, Other, and Problem Questions
Completion, Short Answer, Case, Essay, Other, and Problem questions display the question and an answer field for you to type your response. Completion questions are abbreviated “CO”, Short Answer questions are abbreviated “SA”, Case questions are abbreviated “CA”, Essay questions are abbreviated “ES”, Other questions are abbreviated “OT”, and Problem questions are abbreviated “PR” in the test navigation menu.
- Click in the blank answer field below the question.
- Use your device keyboard to type in your answer.
Responses can include alpha-numeric characters, uppercase and lowercase letters, and there is no character limit. Long responses will remain a continuous string of text. You cannot separate a long response into paragraphs.
- Click the Save icon.
A confirmation window opens with the answer choice you chose and a prompt.
- Click OK to save the answer.
- Click Cancel to close the window and change your answer.
Submitting a Test
After you answer all the questions on an online test, you must submit the test.
- Click Submit test in the upper-right corner.
- Click OK to confirm that you want to submit your online test or click Cancel to close the confirmation window and go back to your test.
- When you successfully submit your test, the Online test successfully upload message appears.
You can submit an online test only once unless your teacher allows you to take it multiple times.
Saving a Test to Complete Later
You can save an online test to complete later.
- Click the left arrow icon from the upper-left corner.
A message with three options displays.
- Select Yes, save this test locally.
The number of tests that you can save locally depends entirely on your available storage space and test size.
- Select OK to save the online test locally.
- Click Cancel to close the window and go back to the online test.
- When you successfully save your test, the Online test was saved locally message appears.
- The log-in screen shows the saved online test.
Opening a Saved Online Test
You must open a saved online test to respond to the questions.
- Open ExamView Student.

Enter your Student ID.
You must enter your Student ID to exactly match your instructor’s records. Ensure that you do not add a space after the last character of your Student ID. If you do not remember your Student ID, ask your instructor.
- Select the saved online test that you want to complete.
A password window appears.
- Enter the password provided by your instructor in the Password field.
The password is case-sensitive. It must be entered exactly as provided. If you are unsure, ask your instructor.
- Click OK.
The test will display.
Completing a Saved Online Test in Offline Mode
You can complete a saved test in offline mode. You don’t have to be connected to the internet. When you are again connected to the internet, you can submit the test.
- Open ExamView Student.
- Enter your assigned Student ID provided by your instructor in the Student ID field.
You must enter your Student ID to exactly match your instructor’s records. Ensure that you do not add a space after the last character of your Student ID. If you do not remember your Student ID, ask your instructor.
- Select the saved online test that you want to complete.
A password window appears.
- Enter the password provided by your instructor in the Password field.
The password is case-sensitive. It must be entered exactly as provided. If you are unsure, ask your instructor.
- Click OK.
The test will display.
- Answer the questions.

Submitting a Test Completed in Offline Mode
After you complete a test in offline mode, you must submit the test when you are again connected to the internet.
- When you are connected to the internet, open ExamView Student.
- Enter your assigned Student ID provided by your instructor in the Student ID field.
You must enter your Student ID to exactly match your instructor’s records. Ensure that you do not add a space after the last character of your Student ID. If you do not remember your Student ID, ask your instructor.
- Click the saved online test that you want to complete.
If you saved several online tests and do not see the online test ID that you want to open, click and hold in the area with the list of saved tests as you drag up or down. The complete list of saved tests will be displayed.
- Enter the password provided by your instructor in the Password field.
The password is case-sensitive. It must be entered exactly as provided. If you are unsure, ask your instructor.
- Click OK.
The test will display.
- Click Submit test in the upper-right corner.
- Click OK to confirm that you want to submit your online test or click Cancel to close the confirmation window and go back to your test.
- When you successfully submit your test, the Online test successfully upload message appears.
You can submit an online test only once unless your teacher allows you to take it multiple times.
Deleting a Saved Online Test
You can delete a saved online test.
- Open ExamView Student.
- Click the delete icon next to the saved online test that you want to delete.
If you saved several online tests and do not see the online test ID that you want to delete, click and hold in the area with the list of saved tests as you drag up or down. The complete list of saved tests will be displayed.
- Click OK to confirm that you want to delete the selected online test or click Cancel to close the confirmation window.
Closing ExamView Student
When your online test has ended, close ExamView Student.
