Some institutions will provide their copyright policy information on the Legal page in EchoVideo, making it available for users to review or reference as needed, while others want to configure specific copyright licenses available for use. Once enabled, media owners and admins can set which licenses apply to individual media that they own.
Once a Copyright Policy is in place or alternate copyright enabled, Audio, Video, Interactive Media, and Spherical (360°) Video can have the copyright applied to them by administrators or content owners. When applied, a copyright indicator will then appear in the player for users and provide a link to view the full Copyright Policy.

To Enable a Copyright
- Log into EchoVideo.
- From your Library, select the media for which you want to enable the copyright.
- Click Permissions, as shown in the figure below.
- Enable one of the available Copyright toggles. They are disabled by default, as shown in the figure above.

- Public Domain
- Creative Commons: Attribution
Note that Attribution is the foundation for all additional Creative Commons licenses below. Each additional license automatically includes Attribution. You must enable Attribution in order to select any additional Creative Commons license(s).
- Share Alike
- Non-Commercial
- Non-Commercial + Share Alike
- No Derivatives
- Non-Commercial + No Derivatives
- Once enabled, you can toggle on one of the additional restrictions.
- When Restrict Download is enabled, end users will not be able to download the media or any associated transcript files. Administrators and the content owner can still download it but viewers cannot, no matter what other download settings may be enabled for embeds, class content, etc.
- When Restrict Unauthenticated Viewing is enabled, if the viewer does not have an authentication token they cannot view the media, i.e., if their session has timed out or if someone had created a public link to the media.
- When Enforce Copyright Acknowledgement is enabled, viewers will see and must accept the acknowledgment EVERY time the media is viewed.
The Restrict Download and Restrict Unauthenticated Viewing toggles will override any other content settings. For example, if media is published into a Section that allows downloads but the Restrict Download toggle is ON, then no one will be able to download it from the Section aside from the owner or any Administrators.
Which Copyright Should I Use?
Private - Set in place by your institution; specific to the use of EchoVideo.
Public Domain - This license indicates that no exclusive intellectual property rights apply to the material.
Creative Commons: Attribution - This license allows you to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material. You must credit the creator. This license also allows for commercial use. All of the following Creative Commons options include Attribution as a base:
Share Alike - This license allows you to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material. You must credit the creator. This license also allows for commercial use. If you copy or adapt a work with this license, it must be released under the same license as the original.
Non-Commercial - This license allows you to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material. You must credit the creator. This license does not allow for commercial use.
Non-Commercial + Share Alike - This license allows you to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material. You must credit the creator. This license does not allow for commercial use. If you copy or adapt a work with this license, it must be released under the same license as the original.
No Derivatives - This license allows you to copy and distribute the material in its original form only. You must credit the creator. This license also allows for commercial use.
Non-Commercial + No Derivatives - This license allows you to copy and distribute the material in its original form only. You must credit the creator. This license does not allow for commercial use.
