As of June 30, 2024, ExamView will officially reach its end of life.
Please be advised that after ExamView’s end-of-life date of June 30th, 2024, we will no longer be providing updates, security patches, or technical support for any version of ExamView. A narrative is a table, a descriptive passage, a special instruction, a picture, or other information that you can attach to (or link to) one or more questions. All questions linked to the same narrative print together as a group on a test. Possible uses for a narrative include a reading passage, map, chart, or photo.
Create a New Narrative
- Choose Narratives from the Question menu to enter a narrative, as shown in the figure below.
- Optionally, if you are creating/editing a question, click Narrative at the bottom of the edit question window, as shown in the figure below.
- Click New, as shown in the figure below.
- Type the narrative text, enter a table, or insert a picture. Use the built in word processor, as needed, to enter the narrative.
- In the lower right corner, enter a unique name for the narrative in the Narrative name box, as shown in the figure below.
ExamView Test Generator uses the narrative name to determine if any other questions already on the test use the same narrative. If the narrative is already included, only the new question will be added to the test. If the narrative is not included, both the new question and the narrative are added.
- Click Record, as shown in the figure above.
- Click Done when you finish, as shown in the figure below.
If you change or add a narrative on a test, the changes are not made to the original question bank. To permanently change a narrative, use the Question Bank Editor. You may create up to 100 narratives per question bank.
