Assignments are asynchronous activities that your learners can complete at their own pace and time, with optional due dates. They come with many useful features that let you tailor the experience for your learners and can optionally be associated with a Course. You must be logged into EchoPoll to create an Assignment.
Create an Assignment
You can create a new assignment or course from within My Library. Assignments created from My Library will not need to be associated with a course, but assignments created from within a course will automatically be associated with that course.
All assignments must have:
- A name
- A Poll Deck for learners to interact with
Learners granted access to your assignment can interact and complete it beginning on its start date. It does not matter when they interact with the assignment after that date, so long as it is before the assignment's due date or before you close the assignment if you choose to close it manually. Once complete, you will be able to view the results of your assignment.
You can either create an assignment from an existing Poll Deck or create a new Poll Deck after starting your assignment. We will go over your options for creating assignments later, but first, let us show you the different ways you can create one.
Create an Assignment From an Existing Poll Deck
Use a Poll Deck to create multiple assignments directly from your library.
- Navigate to My Library, as shown in the figure below.
- Choose a Poll Deck for the assignment and click Assign, as shown in the figure above.
The New Assignment modal opens.
- Optionally, set a future Start Date and Due Date.
Leaving the Start Date blank will make the assignment available immediately. Leaving the Due Date blank will keep it open until you manually close it.
- Optionally, click Show Settings to expand and select additional settings for the assignment.
- Click Assign.
The assignment is available for learners, and they can start it as soon as it becomes available.
Create an Assignment From Scratch
You do not need to start with an existing Poll Deck. You can create the Poll Deck as part of your assignment creation process.
- Click Create from the top right of your screen and select Assignment.
The New Assignment screen opens.
- Type in an Assignment Name.
- Optionally, set a future Start Date and Due Date.
Leaving the Start Date blank will make the assignment available immediately. Leaving the Due Date blank will keep it open until you manually close it.
- Set additional settings for the assignment.
- Choose to create a New Poll Deck.
Now you can create your new Poll Deck and continue creating your new assignment.
Create an Assignment From a Course
Creating an assignment from within an existing course in EchoPoll is an easy way to associate your new assignment with that course. Assignments associated with courses can be restricted to the course roster, and you can easily find your assignment results within the Results tab of the Course.
- Select a course from My Courses on My Dashboard or click View All Courses to see all available courses and choose one from there.
The Course opens to the Sessions tab.
- Select Assignments and then click New Assignment, as shown in the figure below.
- Choose to create a new assignment from a New Poll Deck or Add Existing.
Additional Settings
Every new assignment has several options to let you define how your learners will interact with it.
Look at the New Assignment modal, accessed by clicking Assign on an existing Poll Deck in My Library.
Here is what every field / attribute does:
- Assignment Name: (required) Every new Assignment needs a name. Some workflows will pre-populate a name for you, but you can always edit it before saving.
- Start Date / Start Time: (optional) This is the date and time your learners will gain future access to the Assignment. If you leave it blank, your Assignment will be available to learners immediately.
- Due Date / Due Time: (optional) This is the date and time by which learners must submit their responses. After this date and time, the Assignment automatically closes. If you leave this blank, your Assignment will be available until you close it manually.
- Course Record: (optional) If you want to associate your Assignment with a Course, you can. This will let you limit the learners who have access to your Assignment to those in your Course Roster and allows you to view the Assignment Results within the Results tab of the Course.
-
Participant Settings: (required) This determines which learners can access your Assignment. The options available will depend on your EchoPoll licensing.
- Course Roster: If your Assignment is associated with a Course, you can choose to limit access to learners in a Course Roster. This is also the default participation setting when your Assignment is part of a course.
- Entire Organization: Anyone who is a member of your EchoPoll organization will have access to your Assignment. This is the default participation setting when your Assignment is not linked to a course.
- Guest (sign-in): Any logged-in EchoPoll user can access your Assignment if you provide them with a link. This means you will know who has completed your Assignment, but they do not necessarily need to be part of your Roster or organization.
- Guests (public): Anyone can join your Assignment if you provide them with a link to it, and they do not need to log in first. This option allows for anonymous assignment completion, which may be a requirement for you.
- Attempts: (required) This determines the number of times your learners can re-try your Assignment. Learners will have 1 attempt by default, but you can give them up to 10 attempts or unlimited.
-
Assignment Settings
- Show solutions: You can choose to let your learners see the correct answers for questions as they submit their response. This is disabled by default.
- Show results: You can let your learners see which questions they answered correctly or incorrectly after the session ends. This is enabled by default.
- Show score: This lets your learners see their final score on the Assignment. This is enabled by default.
- Randomize answers: This changes the order of your answers for multiple choice and multiple select questions. We will keep track of which answer you marked correct. This is disabled by default.
