Introducing Widgets
Widgets are interactive learning objects that can be used stand alone or added to a course. Start with a growing library of widget types (templates) and use our WYSIWYG editor and previewer to quickly build your interactive. These can be downloaded as a package, added to a course, or use the embed link to add the widget via a link or iframe to your existing content.
The types of widgets available are:
- Assessment
- Flashcard
- Hotspot
- Media Gallery
- Tab and Accordion
- Categorization
- Video
Common Steps
This section describes the common steps involved whether you create a new widget or use an existing widget.
1. Click the Course Structure icon from the menu.
2. Select a lesson which will contain the widget.
3. Select Widget from Blocks.
The structure defaults to One Column.
4. Select the Widget option.
Narrowing Your Search
You can search for the type of widget to narrow down your selection.
You can also filter the widgets by type to narrow down your selection.
Creating a New Widget
1. To create a new widget, select the New Widget link if it is not already selected.
2. Select the type of widget you would like to create. For more information about searching for widgets see the above section, “Narrowing Your Search”.
3. Once you have determined the type of widget you wish to create, hover over it and click the Add button.
The widget is added to the selected lesson.
4. Click the Edit Widget link to edit the widget.
Using an Existing Widget
1. To use an existing widget, select the Content Manager link.
2. Select the type of existing widget you would like to use. For more information about searching for widgets see the above section, “Narrowing Your Search”.
You can sort the search results using the following criteria:
3. Once you have determined the type of widget you wish to create, hover over it and click the Add button.
The widget is added to the selected lesson.
Editing Widgets
You can edit a widget after creating a new one or using an existing one.
1. Click the Edit Widget link to edit the widget.
If the widget is already being used in another template you will see a warning similar to this one:
The warning is to let you know that if you change the widget, it will be affected in the versions used in those templates.
2. If you are sure you want to proceed, click the Continue button.
Depending on the type of widget that you are editing, the widget will display in Edit mode. In the following example, the Hotspots widget is being edited.
No matter which widget you are editing, you can:
- Preview your changes by clicking the Preview button.
- Access the Settings, Themes, and Comments sections.
