Once in a classroom, you can take notes in the Sidebar while viewing the class media.
The Notes panel appears by default to the right of the media playback panel, as shown in the figure below. Open or close the Sidebar using the button identified in the figure below.
All notes entered appear in the Study Guide tab for the course. In addition, any time you bookmark the media in the class, the bookmark location is added to your notes, both in the panel and in the study guide.
Only you can see your notes. Instructors know which students are taking notes within the interface, but do not see the text you enter.
Since notes are saved in the system as plain text and plain text takes up almost no space, the functional character limit for class notes is so high as to be very difficult to achieve without really trying (400K). So take as many notes as you want!
To Take Notes
- Click the Notes panel from the Sidebar.
- Click in the Add a note box and start typing.
- At the end of each note, press Enter or click Add Note. This allows for the entry and syncing of a new note.
Location information (time and / or slide number) appears in the tag to the left of the note. These tags can be edited if you need to change the location your note is referencing, or deleted if the video / presentation location does not matter.
When you click on a note, the media playback changes to sync with that location, providing context for the notes you add. This applies to both the classroom notes panel and the study guide.
Any Bookmarks you set for classroom content also appear in the Notes panel.
You can also download your notes from the classroom or the Study Guide tab. This generates a text file containing your class notes.
Open notes in WordPad not Notepad. The notes text file that gets generated opens with proper formatting in WordPad but not in Notepad. Notepad does not recognize the line-breaks between notes.
Edit Location Timestamp / Slide Number Tags
- Click the vertical action menu for the tag.
- Select Edit.
- In the Video Timestamp box, type in the new time and press Save Changes. Use colons between the hour, minute, and seconds digits (hh:mm:ss).
- Optionally, click the Video Timestamp slider to turn the timestamp's visibility on or off.
Alternatively, you can select Delete from the vertical action menu to remove the note or bookmark.
