After you have published your content to a course, you can make an individual video or presentation available or unavailable immediately or on a specified date. This controls whether students can view the item, while keeping the content in the class. Keeping it in the class preserves analytics data, since removing the content also deletes student views and analytics information. Instructors can always see media published to a class.
Optionally, you can select Availability Settings and configure future start and / or end dates for the content's availability, if changing the immediate status is not appropriate.
If your institution, organization, or section is set to Delay availability for closed captions videos are unavailable for student viewing until they have closed captions and you cannot manually make the item available. It must have closed captions before the system will allow students to view it, to ensure that hearing students who do not require closed captions are not at a significant advantage. If you believe this setting should not be on or has been inadvertently enabled, ask your administrator.
How to make media available / unavailable immediately for students
- Navigate to the class list for a section, either by clicking a course tile from the Courses tab or via a link in your.
In the figure below, note that the media icons are different colors. A black icon indicates that media is not currently available to students; a white icon indicates the media can be viewed by students. The media icons also contain a tooltip indicating current availability. Students do not see an icon if the media is unavailable to them.
- Click Media on a class to open its options, as shown in the figure below.
- Select Make Available or Make Unavailable depending on the current state of the media.
The availability status of the media changes immediately, although any students currently viewing the item in a classroom will not notice a difference until they exit the classroom and re-enter. Similarly, students currently viewing the class list will also not notice a difference until they refresh the class list page or exit the class list and return.
