The look and feel of the Player is changing! Upcoming changes are identified in this article by providing screenshots labeled "Old UI" and "New UI".
A Note on Terminology: Since the editor is primarily designed for video editing, this article uses the term "video" for the media being edited. However, some of the information and procedures also apply to audio-only files. It does not apply to interactive media (videos with polls embedded in them). You cannot currently edit the video portion of interactive media; you can only add, remove, or edit the embedded polls, and as such the Edit Media command for interactive media is disabled.
Each recording in the EchoVideo system has three possible tracks, two video and one audio. This is designed to allow recordings to include video from one or two cameras, or a video and a recording of a computer screen, and the sound that accompanies either or both of those.
The EchoVideo video editor now allows you to add, remove, or replace any of those tracks for any recording in your Library (that you editing permissions for).
The below figure is a composite image showing where the commands reside for the Add a Track, Replace Track Source, and Remove Track options described on this page.
As with all media editor functionality, we encourage you to practice and play around with these features, in order to get an idea of what they do and how to use them. Remember: you can always use Save As to save your changes in a new file, and the Undo button and / or Revert to Original to undo any changes you make.

The one stipulation that applies to performing any of these tasks is that there MUST be at least ONE TRACK from the original media that remains. You cannot replace or remove all of the original parts.
For example, for a single video / audio recording, you can remove and / or replace either the video OR the audio but not both. If you add a second video track, you can also replace the audio of the original with the audio from the newly-added track (if it has audio), but at that point the original Video 1 track must remain and cannot be removed or replaced. You can edit the video track to clip and remove segments and reduce what is there, but you cannot get rid of the entirety of the original.
All of the below procedures begin from within the EchoVideo Video Editor. If necessary, see Accessing the Video Editor. You may also want to review the other sections of Using the EchoVideo Video Media Editor for information on the basic control features of the editor.
Adding a Video or Audio Track
Adding a track is exactly what it sounds like; you are adding a video or an audio track to the media. This is different from Insert Media, because you are adding the whole layer, not just inserting something as a segment into an existing track.
In order to use this command, there must be an open track available. If you are working with a dual-video capture that has audio, all three tracks are occupied and this command is grayed out. You must remove one or two of the existing tracks to add a different track to this media.
Add a track can be performed on single-video with audio, audio only, or video only (no audio) media.
When adding a video track from your library to an existing video, you will be given the option to also replace the audio of the original with the audio of the new file. Remember however, that as noted above, at least one track of the original media must remain; in this instance it is the Video 1 track. By adding a Video 2 track and replacing the audio, the Video 1 track is the only original track left.
Finally, you can add media tracks of a different duration to the original. The player simply provides a placeholder for the duration where one track has playable media and the other does not.
To add a track
- In the editor, click Actions then select Add A Track. This is shown in the above figure.
- If both audio and video can be added to this media (two open tracks), select the track type you are adding, either audio or video, then click Next.
Otherwise, move on to the next step.Old UI

Replace a Track
Replacing a track is exactly what it sounds like; you are replacing a video or an audio track for the media with a video / audio track from different media. This is different from adding a track (discussed above) because the end result is the same number of tracks you started with.
Like adding a track, however, you may be given the option to replace both the video track and the audio track at the same time, but ONLY if your original media is a dual-source recording. As in all cases with the media editor, you CANNOT remove all aspects of the original; meaning you cannot replace both the video and audio of media that has only a single video track with audio.
Replace a track can be performed on any video or audio media.
Finally, you can replace a media track with one that is a different duration than a non-replaced track. The player simply provides a placeholder for the duration where one track has playable media and the other does not.
To replace a track
- In the editor, click the menu button (ellipsis) for the track you want to replace, then select Replace Track Source, as shown in the below figure.

Remove a Track
Removing a track is exactly what it sounds like; you are removing a video or an audio track from the media.
As in all cases with the media editor, you CANNOT remove all aspects of the original; meaning you can remove two of the three tracks of dual-source videos, or for single-source videos, either the audio or the video track. Even if you have replaced a track, you must have at least one track of the original remaining.
The below figure shows what happens when you cannot remove (or replace) the sole remaining track of the original. In the example shown, the original media was a dual-source video. Video 2 track was replaced with a different video, and the audio for the replacement was also used. This means that Video 1 of the original is the only remaining component, and therefore MUST remain with the media.
