If your Instructor has posted an Assignment in Blackboard and requested you submit an EchoVideo video as a response, use the below instructions to select and submit a video from EchoVideo.
The steps for embedding media for an assignment are the same as embedding any media into Blackboard, but this time it is done as a part of submitting an Assignment.
HOW you get to the EchoVideo media selection page differs depending on whether you are in a Learn or Original view Blackboard course, or an Ultra-enabled course. Both sets of instructions are included on this page.
Once you submit a video for a Blackboard assignment, it is locked and cannot be edited or deleted. This applies to Collection media that might be owned by someone else as well as media you own. You can create a copy of the video or download it. An EchoVideo administrator can delete the video if necessary.
PLEASE UNDERSTAND that the Blackboard instructions on this page are provided as a guide, and your Blackboard interface may differ. Refer to your Blackboard documentation if you need further assistance.
Helpful Tip: You MAY find the easiest way to add video content to EchoVideo is through the EchoVideo Mobile Apps. Specifically, the Mobile Apps allow you to Upload a video from your phone or tablet into your library. If you are not already a Mobile App user, you may need to create an EchoVideo password to use with them first (Settings icon Account Settings Create Password).
Submitting EchoVideo media for a Learn assignment
The below procedure submits media you can access as a Blackboard Learn assignment. This can be EchoVideo media you own or media that lives in a Collection where you have Post permissions. The EchoVideo embed media dialog box also allows you to upload and submit a video as a single process through the same interface. You may even be able to create a new recording using Universal Capture Personal if this feature has been enabled for students.
To submit EchoVideo library media for a Blackboard Learn assignment
- Log in to Blackboard as a student then navigate into a course.
- Click Content on the left.
- Find and select the Assignment you want to respond to.
- In the Assignment Submission page, click Create Submission identified in the below figure.
This opens a Text Submission box for the assignment.
- In the Text Submission box, click the Add Content button as identified in the below figure. If you do not SEE this button, click the button with three dots to expand the content window toolbar.
- From the Add Content tool list, select EchoVideo Video Library as shown below.
A dialog box appears with a content selection screen, presenting the options available to you. Click the Launch Media Picker option to choose from your existing content and see the EchoVideo audio, video, or interactive media you own, as well as media in any Collection where you have the Post permission. If you need to upload media to embed, click the Upload Content option, and refer to the instructions in the link if necessary.
- If necessary, use the Search text box and / or Filters options to find the media you want to embed into the window.
-
Select the media you want to embed and click Next.
The dialog box changes to show the selected media as well as playback configuration options, all of which are described below the figure.
If you want to post a link to the media instead of embedding it directly into the page, enable the Link toggle and if necessary see Posting a Link to EchoVideo Media in your LMS / VLE Course.
If you want to embed multiple items together as a Playlist, see EchoVideo: Creating Playlists in your LMS / VLE Course. - From the Select size drop-down list, select the size for the media playback. It is 640x420 by default.
- If appropriate, enable the option to Autoplay the video (it will play as soon as a user opens the page you are embedding it into).
- If you enable Autoplay, Automute is automatically enabled, to accommodate browsers that no longer allow autoplay with sound. You CAN enable Automute separately without Autoplay.
- If appropriate, set a Start At time. If set, the video will begin playing at that timestamp, although viewers will be able to rewind / fast-forward the player to view any segment of the embedded video.
This option is NOT available for interactive media. - If desired, disable the Discussion option to prevent EchoVideo Q&A functionality for your embedded content.
- Click Embed to submit this video for the assignment.
- The Text Submission box changes and shows a placeholder for the embedded media. If you see an error message, refer to the Troubleshooting section at the bottom of the page. You can still click Submit and your media will be submitted.

Troubleshooting
If you are having problems submitting videos, here are a few of the things you may be encountering and why they are happening.
- If you are in an Ultra-enabled course and you get to the Content Marketplace but can't find the EchoVideo Embed tool to select, your Administrator may need to add the tool OR may need to enable student access for the tool link.
- If you are in a Learn or Original View enabled course but do not see the EchoVideo Video Library option for adding content, this likely means that the Blackboard Administrator has not installed the EchoVideo video library building block for Blackboard. See also #3.
- The EchoVideo Student Library MAY need to be enabled. You can embed media you own (which would live in your Library) or media from a Collection where you have Post permission. If neither of these things apply to you, you won't have any media available to embed.
- If you submit media for an assignment but do NOT see the media in the assignment submission after you are done, this typically means that the Blackboard administrator must also configure the system to allow Students to embed EchoVideo videos.
- If you encounter an error like that shown below, you can still click Submit and your video will be submitted. The error simply means that your Administrator needs to upgrade to the newest building block version, and indicates that there is no preview or placeholder for the item.
