Navigating around EchoVideo is done using the Main Menu options located at the top of every EchoVideo window. For most users, there are three options:
- Library - This is your media Library. It stores all media you can view outside a course. It contains both media you own and any media other users have shared with you.
- Courses - This page lists all courses/sections you are enrolled in (as your current role). If you hold multiple roles in the system, such as student and teaching assistant, change your role to see your courses with that role.
- Collections - This is where you can access any collections you are a member of, where you can create new collections to hold media, and add users to your collections. Some institutions have the Collections option disabled; in this case, you will not see a Collections option in the main menu.
In addition to the navigation links described above, the main menu includes a Create button. This allows you to upload media to your library, OR launch Universal Capture to create new media and then upload it.
If you access EchoVideo through an LMS / VLE, such as Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle, or Brightspace, you may open EchoVideo directly in a Course. If you need to access your Media Library in EchoVideo, click the Library option in the top menu, as shown above. Or click Collections to access your Collections. But you may not need to access your Courses from the main menu, as the LMS / VLE guides you into each of your courses.
Seeing Your Library
Click the Library option from anywhere.
The Library page provides access to some of your Collections (if you have any) and all media you have access to outside of an EchoVideo course. This includes any media you have added to the system, media that has been explicitly shared with you, and media that resides in any Collections you are a member of.
Use the Filter option in the top-right corner of the Library page to limit the media (and collections) displayed.
The Filter options include filtering by type of media, whether you own the media or not, whether it has been shared with another user or a course, and the ability to view media specific to a course (relevant if you are an instructor who owns a lot of media across many courses and terms).
Using Media Tiles
The media tiles in the library provide at-a-glance information. They show the video length or the number of slides in the presentation, the media name or title, and, at the bottom of the tile, the owner's name. If the listed owner is not you, the media was shared with you, either directly or through a collection.
Hover over the tile, and you get a menu button, as shown in the figure below. This is the menu button for all actions you can perform on the media.
Click the menu button. The options available on the menu depend on whether you are a student, teaching assistant, or instructor, whether you own this media asset, and a few other system settings.
Click on the tile to open the Media Details Page. As discussed on the Media Details Page, this is the only place where nearly all media-related actions are available.
Seeing Your Courses
Click the Courses option from the Main Menu to access all of your Courses. The Courses in the current (or most recent) term are listed first, and all courses are depicted as tiles on the Courses page, as shown in the figure below.
Each course tile displays the term, course name, course number, and section name. The number in the main panel identifies how many classes there are in the course.
LMS / VLE Users: Your LMS / VLE (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle, Brightspace) should contain all the links you need to enter the course you are enrolled in. In particular, if you are a student, unless you have a reason to access your courses through the Courses page described here, you should access them only through your LMS / VLE course.
