Making Content Available or Unavailable to Students
Last Updated: Aug 09, 2019 03:33PM EDT

This article applies to:  Echo360 Instructors

After you have published your content to a course, you can make an individual video or presentation available or unavailable immediately or on a specified date. This controls whether students can view the item but leaves the content in the class which leaves the analytics data intact (removing content from a class also removes the student view/analytic information). Instructors can always see media published to a class.

Optionally, you can select Availability Settings and configure future start and/or end dates for availability of the content, if changing the immediate status is not appropriate.

IMPORTANT: If your institution, organization, or section is set to "Delay availability for closed captions" videos are unavailable for student viewing until they have closed captions and you CANNOT manually make the item available. It MUST have closed captions before the system will allow students to view it, to ensure that hearing students who do not require closed captions are not at a significant advantage. If you think this setting should NOT be on or has been inadvertently enabled, ask your administrator.

How to make media availabile/unavailable immediately for students

  1. Navigate to the class list for a section, either by clicking a Course tile on the Echo360 Home page, or via a link in your LMS.
In the below figure, notice that the media icons are different colors. A gray icon indicates that media is NOT currently available to students; a green icon indicates the media can be viewed by students. The media icons also contain a tooltip indicating current availability. Students DO NOT see an icon if the media is unavailable to them.

  2. Click a media icon to open the menu, then select Make available or Make unavailable depending on the current state of the media.

The availability status of the media changes immediately, although any students currently viewing the item in a classroom will not notice a difference until they exit the classroom and re-enter. Similarly, students currently viewing the class list will also not notice a difference until they refresh the class list page or exit the class list and return.
