Overview: Finding Courses and Content
Last Updated: Aug 09, 2019 12:44PM EDT

This article applies to:  Echo360 Students

The Echo360 Home page makes it simple to find what you need. The Home page provides access to courses and sections as well as to the media you have access to outside of a classroom.

Use the Search field and/or Filters to narrow the list of items on the page. They can be used separately or in combination. You can Filter to get a subset of items (such as in a particular Term), then enter Search text to search just the filtered subset.

How do I get to the Echo Home page?

Click the Echo logo in the top left corner of whatever page you are on, identified in the below figure. The Echo Home page appears, with the Courses tab active by default.

Use the tabs on the left to pick the type of thing you're looking for: Courses or Content (videos or presentations).

Sorting and Finding Your Courses

The Courses tab lists the courses/sections you are enrolled in. The Sort by options, Text Search and Filter options at the top will help you find the course or section you want.

HELP! My Courses aren't showing up!! The courses/sections shown on the Courses tab are those you are enrolled in as the role you are currently logged in as. If you have multiple roles in Echo360 (instructor in some courses, student in others, or teaching assistant) you must change roles to see the other, relevant courses. Click your avatar in the top right corner of the screen (left of the university logo). This shows what role you are currently logged in as. Click Change to select a different Role from the drop-down list.

Enter text into the search field. Echo360 tries to match the entered text to the Course Number, Course Name, Section Name, or Term Name.

As you type, the courses shown on the page change to match the changing search text.

To clear the search, simply delete the text in the Search field.

Sorting and Finding Your Content

The All Content tab lists all the Content you have access to (both stuff you own and media that has been shared with you). The Sort by options, Text Search, and Filter options at the top will help you find the media you want.

Your options include Type of media (video or presentation), Owner, Status (shared [published] or not shared), Term (of the courses/sections where items are shared), and Course (to which items are shared). NOTE that selecting a Term or Course and also selecting Not Shared as a status will return NO results.

Use the Search field by entering text into the text box. Echo360 tries to match the entered text to the Title of the item.  As you type, the results shown on the page change to match the changing search text.

To clear the search, simply delete the text in the Search field.

If you are an instructor who is also the owner of the captures generated for one or more of your sections, the title of captures in your library may also correspond to the name of the section and/or the classes those captures are published to. This can be useful for searching for media belonging to a particular section or set of classes. This type of search is shown in the above figure.

Notice that the owner of the media is also shown along with the title, a thumbnail of the item, the length (or number of slides), and when it was added to your content. If YOUR name appears there, it is media you own. Media ownership provides some additional functionality that you do not have for media that belongs to someone else.

If someone else's name appears, it is media that has been shared with you, and also appears in the Shared With Me tab. You can view shared media, and sometimes download or copy it, depending on certain settings in the system.
