Install the Echo360 Pod

This page describes how to install the Echo360 Pod (Pod). After you complete the below procedure, continue with configuring the Echo360 Pod.

The allowable operating temperature of the Echo360 Pod device is between 0° – 45° C (32° – 113° F). Be sure to install the device in a location where the temperature around the unit does not exceed this limit. If operated in an environment where temperatures exceed this limit, the unit may overheat and malfunction permanently.


  1. Unpack the box and confirm you have the two separate pieces required: the Echo360 Pod and the power cord.

  2. Place the Pod where you want it, being aware of the following:
    • Observe the safety standards that apply to the installation location.

      The Echo360 Pod cannot record HDCP-restricted content: Be sure to install your capture appliances in a room that does not include devices protected by HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection). Echo360 capture appliances cannot record high-definition content protected by HDCP.
      If instructors are in the habit of bringing their own devices and plugging them into a console for display recording, note that newer Mac computers have HDCP enabled. In some cases, instructors will attempt to play HD content that is restricted by HDCP on the Mac, causing the display feed to be blank, to appear as disconnected, or to record/return very low quality resolution. In this case, users can play the content in Standard Definition or attempt another workaround.

  3. On the bottom of the Pod, find the label with the device's two MAC addresses. Write down the MAC addresses. You will need this information to register and add the device to a room in Echo360.  See the section below for more information on the two MAC addresses.
  4. Connect the power cord to the Pod and a wall outlet.
  5. Connect the Pod to the network via an Ethernet cable if possible. See also the below section on wireless connectivity.
  6. Connect the audio, the video, and/or display devices to either of the input channels (labeled CH1 and CH2). For supported inputs, please see our product specifications.

  7. Once the Pod starts (plugging it in turns it on) tap the touchscreen.
  8. Continue with configuring the Echo360 Pod.

Using the wireless connectivity feature of the Pod appliance

The Pod contains a wireless capability, for use if the appliance is located in a room where a wired connection is not possible. The dual connectivity is made possible by the existence of two MAC addresses for the device.

The MAC address that ends in an EVEN number is used for wired ethernet connections and is the one we recommend you use for most situations.

The MAC address that ends in an ODD number is for wireless connectivity and can be used as a backup communication method if a wired connection is not available.

NOTE that you cannot use live streaming from a Pod if using the wireless connection; live streams can only be done from devices with wired ethernet connections.

When you add the device to a room, you do so using the MAC address of the device. If possible, you should always use the wired (even numbered) MAC address for the Pod. If you ever need to change which connection method the Pod uses, you can change the device configured for the room to use the odd-numbered MAC address.

While it is possible to do so, we do not recommend assigning the two different MAC addresses to two different rooms. Echo360 would recognize them as different devices and allow you to select each for captures, however, this configuration could lead to conflicting capture schedules that would result in missing captures entirely, or truncating captures where schedules overlapped.
